Let me start by stating. . . from the subject of this post I am not saying someone is or isn't involved in the death of Dale Earnhardt Sr.'s death. I am just stating some observations I have had since the tragedy.
From the day of the accident I have been stricken with great sadness with the passing of Dale Sr. Now that I am getting myself back together I am analyzing the accident from all angles and to tell you the truth, it wasn't that severe an accident that I could see. Now, I accepted it at first that yeah, maybe he did get whiplash strong enough to snap his neck and kill him instantly but when the pictures of the inside of the car came out on the internet with visible signs of blood on the steering wheel and other places in the car plus the fact the wheel was broken, I started to wonder what really happened.
You see I have family that used to race cars and my mother even raced open wheel modifieds, so I know about safety in a race car. Sorry I am rambling. Back to the accident at hand.
Today NASCAR officials released information that Dale Sr. died from what it appears that the major impact was forward and to the right, at which time [Earnhardt] more than likely struck the steering wheel with his chest and face." What?? How could this be?? A five point harness almost always prevents this. Shortly after they released more information that the lapbelt came apart. NASCAR Winston Cup Director Gary Nelson said that such an incident had never been seen before in NASCAR’s 52 years. Also they are not releasing whether the belt was frayed or cut. One more piece of information I found out was that according to Earnhardt's friend and car owner Richard Childress, who was also present Friday morning, both the car and the seat belt were virtually brand new, built last November. How could something this new fail?? If it failed due to manufacturer defects fine I'll shut up (thats another ball of wax entirely). If not, I want to know who is responsible for the death of Dale Sr. I understand, coming from a racing family, these things happen and it is a chance you take when involved with a sport such as auto racing but, when a death occurs from negligence or tampering, someone must answer for it.
I'll just sit back and wait for more info to come out and look for more information. I just hate to think that Dale Sr. died due to negligence or tampering.
On another note, I am looking for any non circulated pictures from the race that I could also look at and dig a little deeper. So, if you went to the race and have some pictures please email them or email me if you have photos and I'll give you a mailing address.
