Indian River's next football opponent, Washington High School in Princess Anne, Md., has been forced to forfeit its home game against the Indians on Oct. 2, 1998, due to a scheduling conflict, according to Indian River athletic director Dale Steele. The win improves Indian River's record to 3-0 for the Indians' best start since 1992, when they finished 5-5. The last time the Indians started 4-0 was during the 1988 Division II state championship season, when they won their first six games. I.R. finished 11-1 that year. The Indians last won three straight games in 1994 under former coach Mike Norton. That year, the Indians finished the season with four straight victories after losing their first six.
