Indian River head football coach George Bethard will miss the remainder of the 1998 season after experiencing complications from surgery to remove a cancerous brain tumor. Bethard was diagnosed with the tumor last spring, and, after surgery, underwent radiation treatments during the spring and summer. He was being treated at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore late last week. Bethard coached the team during preseason practices and scrimmages but was taken ill last week and elected to take a 90-day leave of absence. Pat Kelly will be the interim head coach the remainder of the season. Kelly coached the team to a season-opening 20-7 victory over Sussex Central on Friday, Sept. 18, 1998. Brought to you by: |
