Cape, Worthy Destroy Snow Hill 49-0

Elijah Worthy had proven he could find the end zone in the Cape Henlopen High School football team's previous seven games, but visiting Snow Hill (Md.) still couldn't have been ready for what the Viking senior did to them on Friday night, Oct. 30, 1998.

In a 49-0 nonconference victory, Worthy scored five touchdowns in the first half including one on a 35-yard interception return. Worthy only played the first half and finished with 64 yards rushing to go over the 1,000-yard mark with 1,026 yards.

Worthy's interception return and TD runs of 5, 2, 13 and 20 yards helped Cape build a 42-0 halftime lead over the 6-2 Eagles. The win, also fueled by Malik Lopez' 101 yards rushing on just 3 carries, raised the Vikings to 7-1 overall.

O.J. Wilson scored the Vikings' final touchdown on an 11-yard run to cap a 276-yard team rushing performance. Quarterback John Howard completed all three of his passes for 36 yards.

The shutout was the Vikings' fifth in a row and sixth overall this season. In eight games, Cape has surrendered only 15 points and outscored its opponents 279-15. A 7-6 season-opening loss to St. Mark's is the Vikings' only blemish.
