Gabi admits to Ricardo that she isn't sure why she can t seem to take the next step in their relationship. Meanwhile, Antonio tries to dissuade Carmen from pursuing her psychic search for the name of the other man in Gabi's life. Sara's vantage point on the tender scene in the cave convinces her that she's caught Ben and Maria in a romantic clinch. Casey gives Meg another pep talk, encouraging her to believe that Ben will never leave her, even if his first wife does recover her memory. Maria grows uneasy at the thought of recalling her real feelings for Ben. Casey scolds Sara for misquoting him and meddling in her sister's affairs. After promising Casey she won't cause more trouble for Maria, Sara blurts out to an appalled Meg how she witnessed Maria and Ben sharing a moment of passion.

Gabi tells Antonio she's decided to take a few days off and go away with Ricardo. An infuriated Meg accuses her sister of plotting with Tim to stab her in the back. Maria explains to Ben why she's so certain the door in the wine cellar leads to an important piece of her past. Carmen pleads with Ricardo not to give his heart to a woman who is destined to break it. Sara attempts to make Meg understand why she's concerned enough to meddle in her sister~s messy domestic situation. Ben leads Maria through the door and into the cave, where she begins to remember how special the place was to them both. Sara warns a seething Meg that Ben is going to leave her for Maria. Ricardo assures Gabi he's paying no heed to his mother's ravings.

Bette is taken aback to find birth control pills in her daughter's purse. Maria dreams about finding Ben behind the door she's been sketching. In the morning, Meg quizzes her houseguest about a subtle shift in the tension between her and Ben. Waking from a nightmare about winding up all alone, Sara vows to find a way to write a happy ending for her own love story as well as her sister's. Amy entreats Sean to forgive her for putting a curse on his girlfriend. Emily assures her mother she hasn't had sex with Sean-- yet. Worried that the girl is rushing things, Bette encourages Emily to wait until she~s certain her love is for keeps. An enraged Carmen warns Sara to leave Maria alone. Encountering Maria at The Deep, Ben is surprised when she spontaneously calls him by the pet name she used during their marriage.

Assuring her daughter that a door is about to open both literally and figuratively, Carmen predicts that Maria will have total recall before the new year arrives. Meanwhile, Ben tells Meg his efforts to help Maria regain her memory were a bust. Caitlin faints into Cole's arms when she sees Gregory opening a letter from the "black~mailer". Later, Gregory shows his anxious daughter that all the pages were blank. Meg tries to get intimate with Ben but he finds it impossible to perform with his first wife living under the same roof. A.J. declares his undying love to a startled Olivia. Caitlin is taken aback when Cole happily guesses that her fainting spell means she is pregnant again. Unaware that her ex is pulling the strings behind the scenes, Olivia receives an urgent call from England and decides to fly over to see a dying aunt.

Meg tells her disappointed family that Maria is still suffering from total amnesia. Across town, Ben suggests to Maria that he can help her become the person she used to be. Startled to see Gabi walk in, Antonio realizes the "Gabi" he's been speaking with was actually an angel sent to assure him that the Madonna can still be found. As Brad and Amy both shudder to see signs of rapid aging on their own bodies, Sean realizes he must find the emerald before it's too late. Meanwhile, the demonic Hillary and Nielsen attack Cole and attempt to make him relinquish the jewel. Ben recreates for Maria several of the traditions they used to share on Christmas Eve. After Cole finally forces the evil apparitions to disappear, he, A.J. and Francesca hurry back to the Mission.

Sean and Bette are astonished to see that Emily has aged rapidly in just a matter of minutes. Olivia delivers the last $900,000 to her relieved daughter. As Gregory eavesdrops electronically on the women, Caitlin and Annie discuss with Olivia how they hope the money will satisfy their blackmailer once and for all. Francesca fears she is about to suffer the same terrible fate which befell Hillary. Meanwhile, A.J. is alarmed to see signs of advancing age on his own face and hands. Though the emerald starts to burn his fingers, Cole maintains his grip on the gem until the hallucination fades. Certain he's failed in his mission to recover the Madonna, Antonio sadly offers up his own life to God in hopes his sacrifice will save the other people involved. Suddenly, an angel identical in appearance to Gabi comes to Antonio with reassuring words.

Ben orders Maria to open her suitcase. Searching through her belongings, Ben finds the videotape and the dossier and accuses Maria of using them to fake her "memories". Amy tells a dismayed Cole that she already threw the cursed emerald into the ocean. Unaware that a scorpion has crawled into the mouth of the tin figure, Antonio and Jimmy attempt to open the statue. Bette explains to her daughter and Sean how the emerald might have caused family's blindness. At the power plant, a frightened Annie fires off a shot in the direction of her unseen tormentor's voice. Cole forces Amy to admit that she still has the jewel, then warns the girl that a dozen lives are at stake if the gem isn't back to the Madonna by midnight.

Amy buys a cheap copy of the emerald necklace in hopes of switching it for the real thing. Emily overreacts to Sean's attempt to cheer her up with an early Christmas gift. Meg walks in as Ben accuses Maria of lying about getting her memory back just so they can be divorced. The blackmailer orders Annie and Caitlin to meet him at the power plant. Maria bitterly informs Meg and Ben that she did indeed lie---but not for the reason they think Bette explains to Cole how her daughter mysteriously lost her sight. Unaware that the Rosario madonna is hiding in plain sight right there in Surf Central, Antonio, A.J. and Francesca discuss the dire consequences which will befall them if the statue isn't found in time. Brad watches in amazement as Amy uses reverse psychology to convince Emily to hand over the emerald.

Ricardo demands that his brother explain why the late Juan Sanchez was carrying a note addressed to "Padre Antonio". When the blackmailer calls back, Caitlin nervously blurts out that she's having trouble putting her hands on enough cash. Amy loses the emerald once again when Bette reclaims it for Emily. A.J. warns a horrified Olivia that their lives and the lives of everyone they love are in jeopardy unless the missing emerald is restored to its rightful owner. Later, Olivia remembers seeing Amy and Brad locate something in the sand on the night Hillary died. Emily puts on a brave front for Sean and Bette. Ben tells Dr. Estrada he's puzzled by the fact that Maria's memories don't seem to be accompanied by any kind of emotion. Ricardo confides to an uneasy Antonio how he and Gabi appear to be drifting apart.

An uneasy Gabi and Antonio both feel the temperature in the cabin rise as they remember similar moments when they were close in proximity. Jimmy finds a crate emblazoned with a rose floating in the surf near the pier. As Francesca screams in horror, A.J. rushes in and forces the hysterical woman to see that Cole is not really a mummy after all. After Gregory stumbles across the briefcase containing the one hundred thousand dollars, Annie nervously claims she inherited all the cash from a late uncle. Casey and Michael explain to Jimmy that they'll have to keep the crate at the lifeguard station until someone claims it. Olivia overhears Amy talking to Brad about removing a curse. Cole warns his father and Francesca that if all the jewels aren't returned to the Rosario madonna by midnight on Christmas Eve everyone who touched the gems will die.

At the Christmas party, Maria tearfully announces that her memory has just returned. Gabi and Antonio find themselves trapped in the cabin of the boat. Anxious to meet Juan Sanchez before it's too late, Antonio attempts to break down the door but only succeeds in dislocating his shoulder. As Ben questions her about her past, Maria rattles off every answer smoothly and convinces her delighted old friends that she's fully recovered. After A.J. fishes a body out of the ocean, Francesca breathes a sigh of relief to see that the victim is not Cole. Michael's tenderness towards her unborn child fuels Vanessa's feelings of guilt about the baby's true paternity. During a search of the dead man's clothing, Ricardo is surprised to find a note in Spanish addressed to Father Antonio. Ben expresses some doubts about Maria's "miraculous" recovery.

Gabi overhears Antonio's end of a disturbing phone call from the priests former parish back in Rosario. Sean declares his love to Emily. Maria accuses Sara of spying on her. Later, Maria makes plans to spring a Christmas "miracle" on Ben by faking another sudden burst of recall. Vanessa awakens gasping from a nightmare about Michael going ballistic once he learns the baby belongs not to him but to Tyus. Casey and Sara share another lingering kiss on the beach. Maria digs through Ben's closets until she finds the blue star from the photo of Christmas past. Meanwhile, Ben becomes absorbed by memories of a happy holiday he spent with his first wife during the early days of their marriage. A.J. reads the lab report on the stained handkerchief and is stunned to discover that the blood was not from a human being.

Determined to hold on to Casey, Sara realizes she must offer Maria an apology even if it isn't sincere. Gabi's reluctance to work at the Mission puzzles Ricardo. Emily cautiously inches her way out of the hospital and onto the street. Sara asks both Maria and Meg for their forgiveness. Consumed with the possibility that Vanessa might be carrying his child, Tyus asks his friend how advanced her pregnancy is. Desperate to conceal the truth, Vanessa tells Tyus she is only three months along. Sean spots Emily walking into the path of a runaway truck and dashes over to pull her to safety. Gabi admits to Ricardo that she has had second thoughts about making love to him. A tearful Vanessa unburdens herself to Meg. Francesca eavesdrops on Ricardo as he questions his brother about the larcenous Senora Vargas.

Gregory reminds Annie that filing a false insurance claim is a felony. Gabi and Antonio both find it difficult to dismiss thoughts of the dance they shared. Caitlin finds Cole's bloodstained shirt and questions him about his movements on the previous night. Francesca greets Ricardo wearing nothing but a smile when he arrives at her door with a search warrant. A guilt- stricken Amy searches for a way to undo the damage she's done. Cole evades his wife's questions by taking her to bed and making her forget all about the bloody shirt. Annie begins to wonder if Olivia is the anonymous caller who has been issuing blackmail threats. Emily bristles when Bette fusses over her, trying to ease her daughter's way as the girl adjusts to life in the dark. Gabi finds herself assigned to the mission, a development which badly rattles Father Antonio.

A frantic Bette rushes to the emergency room after hearing about her daughter's accident. Sara begs Casey to forgive her for lying about her encounter with Maria. As the poisonous gas continues to fill the chapel, Antonio gets down on his knees and begins to pray fervently for God's intervention. Maria hastily concocts a cover story after Ben catches her rehearsing a "memory". Relieved to find Emily seemingly unscathed, Bette is devastated to finally realize that her daughter has actually gone blind. Unable to batter down the locked doors and effect an escape, Cole and A.J. join Antonio in reciting the Latin prayers and the air miraculously clears. Gabi assures Ricardo there is no one standing between them. Amy explains to a skeptical Brad how her chanting caused Emily to lose her sight.

Tim suggests to an irked Sara that she doesn't want Maria back with Ben because that will throw Meg right into Casey's waiting arms. Ricardo wonders why Gabi seems to be putting the brakes on their romance. As Amy chants under her breath from the back seat, Emily suddenly loses her sight and the car veers off the road. While Cole tries to stem the flow of blood from Francesca's invisible wound, A.J. realizes the curse is working again and orders her to remove the diamond bracelet. Sean, Brad and Amy come to following the crash and are relieved to find they are unhurt, but Emily is horrified to discover that she has gone completely blind. Meg witnesses another tender moment between Ben and Maria. Cole, A.J. and Francesca fill an astonished Antonio in on how the Rosario jewels have been wreaking havoc throughout Sunset Beach for months.

Outside the Java web, Amy is terrified to see a strange apparition advancing towards her. Her frantic screams for help bring Sean on the run, but by the time he arrives the "mummy" which menaced Amy has vanished into thin air. Francesca catches A.J. snooping through her room and accuses him of trying to remove her from Cole's life. Though Antonio murmurs in protest, Carmen stubbornly repeats her assertions that another man is destined to come between Gabi and Ricardo. Cole wrestles the gun away from Francesca, assuring her that his father is on their side and is only trying to help him return the jewels to Rosario. Ricardo unwittingly feeds his brother's fantasies by insisting that Antonio take a turn around the dance floor with Gabi. Annie and Caitlin cast around for a quick way to raise a cool million bucks.

Antonio continues to act jumpy around Gabi every time they encounter one another at surf Central. As she begins to chant again, Amy is surprised to discover that the Curses And Legends book has mysteriously reappeared at the Java Web. Annie and Caitlin nervously conceal the phone tracing equipment when Ricardo walks in during another call from their blackmailer. After Michael catches a glimpse of her calendar, Vanessa hastily invents a story to cover her anxiety about the date of her unborn child's conception. Olivia smells a rat when Gregory goes out of his way to deliver a compliment. A.J. confides to Cole how he became entangled in the unearthly business surrounding the cursed Rosario jewels. The anonymous caller informs Caitlin that Annie is holding on to a few more secrets about Trey.

Meg senses that Ben is keeping a secret from her. Carmen is aghast to find her daughter lying senseless on the ground, surrounded by the contents of Pete's dossier. While playing with his grandson, Gregory remarks to Caitlin how surprising it is that Trey doesn't resemble Cole even one little bit. Stunned by the doctor's pronouncement, Vanessa nervously conceals the news from Michael. Maria comes to and desperately snatches the papers out of Carmen's hands before she can read them. Ben assures Meg his heart lies with her but admits he's growing weary of answering questions about his feelings for the other woman in his life. Ricardo tells Amy he still has no leads on her father's disappearance. Leafing through the file Pete compiled, Maria vows to memorize every document in order to convince Meg and Ben that her amnesia is gone.

When her sister intervenes in their quarrel, Sara prods Maria to admit that she's been hiding the truth from Meg. Meanwhile, Tim accuses an irritated Ben of playing fast and loose with Meg's emotions now that his first love has returned from the dead. Virginia attempts to convince Vanessa that she knows the perfect doctor to guide her through her pregnancy. Meg orders her astonished sister to stop bullying Maria. Though Vanessa expresses a desire to have a female OB/GYN, Michael unwittingly helps Virginia persuade his fiancee to make an appointment with Dr. Eric Green. Pete shows Maria the dossier he's compiled on her life. Sara tells Tim her theory that Maria has been faking the amnesia right from the start. As Virginia eavesdrops, Eric informs a startled Vanessa that she is actually 4 months along.
