Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998 Greg squeezes a struggling Eve into a straitjacket while Kevin makes a desperate attempt to convince his captors that the police are already on their way to the Stanton place. In Athens, Victor tries to repair his damaged laptop so he can check his E-mail before posting Joe and Courtney' photos on the Internet. Finally able to log on, Victor is astonished to read the SOS from his son. Meanwhile, back in Port Charles, Chris and the others find the same electronic cry for help and quickly head to the Stanton mansion. Kevin makes a play for the gun Julie is holding but is knocked unconscious by a blast from Greg's stun gun. Victor places a frantic overseas call to the Port Charles police department. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998Claiming he needs more time to figure out the most "creative" way to bump off Eve, Kevin stalls Greg's demands that he hurry up and complete his latest magnum opus. Meanwhile, Serena decides to check her E-mail but is disappointed to learn that Karen no longer owns a computer. Frank, Lucy and Scott search Chris' apartment in hopes of finding some clue to Eve's whereabouts. Victor misplaces his laptop as he and Mary finally arrive in Greece. Chris returns home and is irked to discover a trio of acquaintances ransacking his living room. After Lucy explains why time is of the essence, Chris suggests that Frank may know more about Julie's motivations than he's telling. Kevin tries to log onto the Internet again but Greg catches him in the act and orders his captives to finish the job he's assigned them. Tuesday, Dec. 29, 1998Mindful of Serena underfoot, Karen cautiously informs Lee and Gail that Joe went to Greece with Courtney and Neil to visit the Kinellos. Meanwhile, on the island, the castaways pull together a makeshift Christmas celebration complete with a tree and mistletoe. Out of her little sister's earshot, Karen explains to her grandparents why Scott and Lucy may not make it home in time with Christmas. Matt invites a delighted Ellen to celebrate Kwanza with him. Irked by Joe's abrupt departure from Port Charles, Lee and Gail puzzle over why he skipped off to Greece with an old flame instead of spending the holidays with Karen. Courtney and Joe exchange simple gifts made from items they scavenged for on the beach. Monday, Dec. 28, 1998Unable to find a single sign of life, Joe tells Courtney he fears they're the only people on the entire island. Deep in the throes of withdrawal, Frank threatens to tear Karen's place apart unless she gives him more DL-56. As they build a lean-to on the beach to give them shelter from the elements, Courtney and Joe reminisce about the last time they spent a night together in Greece. Lucy and Scott decide to quiz Gail about the final conversation she had with Julie just before the doctor broke out of jail. Meanwhile, at the Stanton place, Greg orders Kevin to come up with a creative new way to bump off Eve. When their captor's backs are turned, Eve and Kevin hurriedly log onto the Internet and send out a flurry of SOS E-mail messages to everyone they know. Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998Greg and Julie take Eve and Kevin hostage at the lighthouse. Determined to get clean for the child he believes Julie is carrying, Frank submits to Karen's plan for gradually stepping down his dosages of DL-56. A frightened Courtney clings to Joe as a storm at sea rocks the small boat on which they've stowed away. As Frank suffers through withdrawal, Karen urges him to stay strong and ride out the worst of his symptoms. Well on the mend, Lucy throws herself into planning Serena's belated birthday party as well as the upcoming Christmas celebration. Alex arrives and warns Scott and Lucy that Julie has escaped with the help of a man they all believed was long dead. Kevin whispers to Eve that if they remain calm they may be able to stall Greg long enough for help to arrive. Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998Joe and Courtney stow away aboard a cargo ship bound for the Kinello's private island. Posing as a paramedic, Greg overpowers the officer guarding Julie and remind his grateful "sister" how he always comes back for her each time she needs him. After helping Courtney overcome a bout of seasickness, Joe laughingly recalls another boat ride they shared back when they were teenagers in love. Chris reminds an angry Frank that his days as the DL-56 test subject must come to an end now that everyone knows about his addiction. Greg congratulates "Marcia" for cleverly faking a pregnancy in order to get out from behind bars. The staff at GE celebrates as the quarantine order is finally lifted. Though Frank demands a new supply of DL-56, Karen refuses to comply and offers instead to help him go through detox. Monday, Dec. 21, 1998Joe finally reaches his mother and is surprised to learn about the flu outbreak which has virtually paralyzed General Hospital. Meanwhile, after a full night of testing, Karen feels certain the antibody mixture is a viable cure for the epidemic which she and her colleagues have been battling. Chris, Kevin, Ellen, Lucy and Scott are all quickly injected with the new drug in hopes that it will have the same effect it did on Karen. Julie phones Frank from the jail to complain that she's been suffering from cramps, then icily suggests that his irresponsible use of DL- 56 may have harmed their unborn child. Mary learns that Courtney and Joe were arrested for smuggling but evaded the Greek authorities when they tried to deport them. Friday, Dec. 18, 1998Outraged to learn the source of the super flu outbreak, a furious Scott attacks Chris, who begins to go into convulsions. After receiving medication which ends his seizure, Chris weakly tells Scotty he never meant to hurt anybody. In Athens, Joe and Courtney's plans to rescue Neil are foiled for the time being when newspaper headlines and photos tell the story about their arrest. Joe bribes a local boy to engage Neil in a game of catch, then writes a message on the ball. The plan fails, however, when the ball rolls away into the gutter before Neil can read Joe's words. Karen, Matt and Eve achieve a major breakthrough in the GH lab when they create antibodies that cure a group of animal test subjects. Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998After sneaking back to Athens, Joe and Courtney spot Neil on the street with two large bodyguards in tow. Karen and Matt press a feverish Chris to tell them how to break the code on his encrypted notes. Meanwhile, as a worried Eve tends to Kevin, the lead doctor from Disease Control warns her that it's only a matter of time before she, too, begins showing symptoms of the mutated flu. Alarmed to learn that Mario has already succumbed to the virus, Chris gives Karen instructions for decoding his computer files. Courtney explains to Joe how from childhood on she was in training to snare a rich husband and secure for herself a life of ease. Later, Courtney phones Elenia, who claims she and Costas have no idea where Neil might be. Tuesday, Dec. 15, 1998Eve is forced to shock Frank's heart back into sinus rhythm after he suddenly flat lines. Meanwhile, Lark frantically begs the doctors to give her foster father a lifesaving shot of DL-53. As Scotty leans over her bed, a feverish Lucy imagines that it is her "Doc" who has come back to her at last. Karen explains to Lark why injecting Frank with the nerve cell regenerating drug could do more harm than good. When Karen reveals that she deleted her own notes on the formula, Kevin suggests that his father might be able to retrieve the files from the computer at the Baldwin labs. Mary fills in an astonished Victor on how Joe has gone to Greece to find his son. Scott tries to make Lucy understand where she is and what's happening to them, but she continues to dreamily talk of having Kevin take her back to the lighthouse to live happily ever after. Monday, Dec. 14, 1998Courtney and Joe are forced by Greece customs officials to board a flight back to the States. Karen explains to an appalled Kevin and Eve why she needs to provide Frank with a dose of DL-56 before withdrawal symptoms combine with the flu virus to kill him. A concerned Matt hovers near Ellen after she collapses in the ER. Eve finally puts two and two together and guesses that Chris mixed DL-56 with the Naples flu to create the mutation which has laid low dozens of patients. After the people from Disease Control destroy all the medications in the hospital lab, Frank begs an uneasy Karen to make him a new batch of DL-56. Over Eve's strenuous objections, Matt injects Chris with a dangerous drug to force him into consciousness so he can answer questions about what he's done. Friday, Dec. 11, 1998Ellen calls Mary to let her know that Frank is very ill. Ignoring the quarantine order, Karen hurries over to the ER to lend a hand with the widening epidemic. After Chris collapses, leaving his notes in ruins, Eve and Kevin scramble to find a way to recreate the experiment which allowed the Nepalese flu to mutate into such a dangerous new strain. Matt wheels himself down to the ER to volunteer his services but is frustrated to find a guard blocking his way. Scott phones Serena to explain why her birthday party will have to be postponed for a while. A team of doctors from Disease Control arrives at GH to help pinpoint the cause of the outbreak. Karen helps Matt con his way past the guards. Thursday, Dec. 10, 1998Ellen shows Eve and Chris results from the lab showing that the Nepalese flu has mutated into a strange and virulent new virus. Scotty rushes Lucy to the emergency room after hearing about possible contagion of a dangerous flu strain at Mario's. Eve urges Chris to recreate his original experiment in hopes that they can find an antiviral serum to battle the outbreak. Lark arrives at the ER with a concerned Mario in tow. Kevin checks in on Lucy and is troubled to see how sick she's become in so short a time. Ellen begins to feel woozy as she struggles to deal with the rising tide of critical patients. Frank confides to Lark that he's suffering from a bad dose of the new compound which he received from Chris. Wednesday, Dec. 9, 1998As Eve calls for an ambulance, Chris advises her to warn the paramedics to don masks before they enter the premises. With Frank's temperature soaring to 105 degrees, Mario decides to close down his restaurant to avoid spreading any possible contagion. Meanwhile, at the fire house, Scotty tends to a shivering Lucy, who assumes she's come down with a sudden case of flu. Joe and Courtney board a flight to Athens and are quickly mistaken for a pair of honeymooners. When his fellow paramedics ask if he's taking any medications, Frank shakes his head while Chris holds his breath. Later, Chris tells a puzzled Eve that he thinks Frank has been exposed to a new and virulent strain of the Nepal flu. As their long ride continues into the night, Courtney and Joe reminisce about their college days and the romantic gestures each made at the height of their passionate affair. Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998At Mario's, Chris scrambles to clean up the mess after the vial of mutated DL-56 breaks during a struggle with Frank. Mary blames herself after a distraught Courtney explains that the Kinello's have a private plane which is undoubtedly winging them and Neil back to Greece at that very moment. Scott debates his living arrangements with Lucy, who insists that things will become too complicated for Serena if she stays on at the fire house. Eve graciously accepts Lark's apology when the girl expresses regrets for mistaking her for the serial killer. Chris warns an ailing Frank that his supply of DL-56 will dry up in a New York minute if Lance Pharmaceuticals gets wind of any problematic side effects to the drug. Monday, Dec. 7, 1998Kevin offers to treat Eve to dinner at Mario's to make them both forget for a while the cohabitation situation at the fire house. Meanwhile, Scott decides to celebrate his newfound freedom by taking Lucy out to their favorite Italian restaurant. Chris is disappointed to learn that mixing DL-56 with the flu specimen has only served to intensify the virus instead of killing it. When FranNc wonders if DL-56 might cause birth defects, Chris guesses that Julie is carrying his human guinea pig's love child. Courtney tells an astounded Joe and Karen that she~s already revealed the truth about Neil's paternity to John~s parents. worried that his son will hear the news from some third party, Joe decides he must tell Neil himself that he is the boy's real father. Friday, Dec. 4, 1998Determined to trick Frank into helping her escape, Julie reminds her lover that their child will be taken away from her if she has to go to prison. Though Courtney eyes her former in-laws warily, Neil warmly welcomes his paternal grandparents with open arms. Matt begins to piece together the puzzle surrounding Chris and Frank's furtive business dealings. Meanwhile, in the hospital lab, Chris instructs his human guinea pig to put on a good show for their contact at Lance Pharmaceuticals. As the Kinellos accompany Neil and Mary to Grandparent's Day at the school, Karen reassures Joe that his boy will readily adjust to the facts about his true paternity once the time is right to reveal the news. Thursday, Dec. 3, 1998Mary insists on making herself useful around the Scanlon house but her first culinary effort winds up on the kitchen floor. Chris tells Frank his new formula should give him all the benefits of DL-56 without any of the harmful side effects. Later, Eve drops by the lab and complains to Chris that Lucy is still firmly entrenched at the fire house despite the fact that Julie is safely behind bars. Recalling Greg's instructions, Julie decides to play on Frank's sympathy by pretending to "realize" that she isn't Marcia Cooper after all. Eve begins to wonder if Julie could have murdered Ruddy long before she turned herself into the General Homicide killer. Neil balks at going to school, explaining that he doesn't want to be the only kid there without a grandma or grandpa on Grandparent's Day. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998Kevin continues working to make Julie understand how she was brainwashed by Greg into believing that she was his sister and needed to avenge Marcia's death. Chris reminds Eve that it would be pathetic to keep pursuing Scott with Lucy seemingly a permanent fixture at the fire house. Meanwhile, Lucy tells Scott she's thinks it's time she moved out now that the General Homicide killer has been caught. Though Julie insists that Greg was kind to her when nobody else cared, Kevin urges her to remember how frightened she really was while being held hostage by Cooper. Scott persuades Lucy to stay with Serena at least until he's finished his jail term. Frank pressures Chris for a larger dose of DL-56. Revealing that he's been working on a compound which could eliminate the aggressive side effects of the drug, Chris offers to substitute the new potion for Frank's regular supply of DL-56. Tuesday, Dec. 1, 1998Joe offers Frank his moral support as Lee begins plotting a defense strategy to keep Julie off of death row. Courtney is distressed to learn that John's parents are on their way to Port Charles to visit Neil. Kevin suggests to Lee that they use evidence of Greg's brainwashing to prove that Julie is not competent to stand trial for the serial killings. Though Frank objects to the thought of his girlfriend locked behind a door at some psychiatric hospital for the rest of her life, Lee reminds the paramedic that the only defense he's willing to mount is a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. Courtney explains to Mary and Karen why she's so worried about Neil spending time with his paternal grandparents. Soap Opera Updates Copyright© 1998 Accuweather, Inc.
