Drew hints that he's to blame when Jesse finds her upset that Max won't be at her family dinner. Buzz and Selena close the diner early and learn that Max has other plans for the night. Susan invites him to come back after the place is closed so that she can cook for him. However, when they do return, Max accidentally drops a match and starts a fire. Susan then discovers that they are locked inside. Danny says goodbye to his mother as he prepares to leave for California and finds it amusing that she can't tell him that she loves him. When he makes a snide remark about his father, she quickly defends her husband and the life he left her with after he was killed.

Meeting Matt about Lewis oil business, Jim remarks that his relationship with Beth is going great. Matt stuns him with the revelation that he was the married "jerk" Beth dated before him. Jim apologizes for sticking his foot in his mouth but Matt assures him it's okay. Beth leaks to Vicky that she's been pumping Susan for information about her dead mother so that she can have a successful relationship with Jim. When Beth suggests that it's not a good idea to invite Max to her party, Susan accuses her of siding with Harley. Phillip downplays it when Harley worries about her daughter's interest in Max. Susan interrupts and insists that Harley invite Max to her party. Running into Jim, Beth uses Susan's tennis tip to be with him.

Pilar steps in and uses the Santos name to scare them off when Danny faces off with a few patrons at Millennium. After a few more drinks, Danny upsets Pilar when he talks about his life being over thanks to their mother. She encourages him not to allow Carmen to win but to go after Michelle. Meanwhile, Ben advises Carmen on how to handle Danny and warns her about sending him to jail in order to "control" him. Carmen makes Danny an offer to go to work in California for his uncle Frederico and she won't interfere in Pilar's life. Pilar urges him to turn down the offer. Reva confides to Josh that she's having second thoughts about getting pregnant because of Marah and a terrible dream she had.

Kate introduces herself to Holly in her room at the hospital and insists that Fletcher is still in love with Holly. Blake and Fletcher are surprised to find Kate showing Holly Meg's latest drawings. After wishing Holly well, Kate tells Fletcher that she misses him. Fletcher assures Holly that he's not going to allow Kate to interfere in their future because he's going to remain in Springfield. Meanwhile, Blake orders Kate to get out of town and stay out. Danny pushes Pilar to leave town. when Bill stumbles into the club, all battered and bruised, Danny guesses that Carmen was behind the mugging. Bill accuses Danny of setting up the attack but Danny denies it and suggests that he prefers Pilar to be with him rather than anyone else in the family.

Max orders Drew to get away from his mother's grave. She tries to convince him that she is his stepsister but he doesn't believe her. When she shows him the document to prove it, he calls it a forgery. Taking him back to her place, she suggests he move in and offers him a job at the club. Danny interrupts Pilar's eye- opening conversation with Bill and orders her to come home with him. when Bill tries to protect her, he and Danny exchange punches until Pilar stops the fight. Outside the diner, Pilar lays into Danny for lying to her about the family. He stuns her with the truth about the death of their brother at the hands of Michelle. Ben kicks open the door to Blake's house and refuses to leave when she threatens to call the police.

Susan helps Max after Jesse grabs the kid outside the diner and accuses him of cleaning out the cash register. After Jesse leaves, Susan argues with her new friend about why he stole the money. He claims that he took the money because he's hungry and has no place to live. After she hands him the cash, he jokes about how good an actor he is and teases Susan for believing his hard luck story before running off. Though pleased that Fletcher is getting her released for the day from the psychiatric ward for a picnic with Meg, Holly is devastated when she finds a photo of another woman in Fletcher's wallet. when he hears Drew tell Selena she wants to find out all she can about her dead mother, Buzz offers to investigate the woman instead of his daughter or David.

Annie stops by Holly's room for a chat and reveals her moment with the new mother and her baby. When Annie tries to justify her desire to steal a baby to insure it's good health, Holly's jumps to warn her that she's fooling herself into thinking that taking a baby is okay. She strongly advises Annie reform and agrees to be friends with her. Guessing that Harley has been behind Phillip's attempt to drive Jim from town, Beth blasts Harley for what she's done and accuses her of not loving her daughter Susan enough. Outraged by the accusation, Harley advises Beth that she wants Susan to stay but now knows that the teen has been playing her and Beth against each other.

Blake's caught off guard when she removes her blouse and finds India sauntering out of Ross' bedroom. Sending India back to the bedroom where she secretly calls Ben with a warning, Ross denies they are sleeping together but questions why Blake would come by his place, looking for romance. Ben surprises Carmen at Millennium and admits he's still considering her offer. However, when India calls, he goes running to Ross' place. Carmen lectures her son about playing so loosely now that Michelle is gone. Before Danny leaves the club for a late night delivery, she warns him to be careful, thanks to Michelle's talks with the FBI but Danny blames her for their recent family troubles.

Cassie is relieved to find Jim at her front door, not Dinah. when they discuss his new life in Springfield, he confides that he feels like he's cheating on his wife every time he's with another woman. She encourages him to be with Beth and he admits that he's going to take that relationship slowly. Meanwhile, Beth talks with Vicky about her exciting new relationship with Jim. Vicky admits she's jealous and complains that she seems to disagree with David on everything. Vicky's jaw drops when David enters Millennium wearing his police uniform. Harley is sensitive when she mentions her unborn baby and Susan shows no interest. She lectures her daughter in hopes she'll believe Phillip cares for her. that the formal setting is for a client, Ben claims that he ended their relationship because he loves her, not hates her.

When Pilar reveals her plans to remain in Springfield, Carmen refuses to allow it and orders her to go as planned at the end of the week. Pilar sticks to her guns and insists on staying with her family where she belongs. Frank reports to Vanessa, Matt and Cassie that the nuns at the convent told him that Dinah has been missing for a week now. Worried that Dinah is not where it's safe and ignoring Matt's pleas to stay put for now, Vanessa makes a reservation to fly to Lucerne. Matt eventually agrees to fly with her. Catching Jesse and Drew in an argument, Michelle agrees with Jesse that they need some time apart to assure that their relationship is one worth starting again. Jesse explains their decision to Drew who kicks Jesse out anyway.

Carmen accepts Ben's dinner invitation after asking him again to act as her family attorney. Carmen pretends to be happy to see Pilar back in town but then orders Pilar to go back to school. she takes Danny aside and blasts him for bringing her back to the country and reminds him that she can't find out about the family's illegal activities. Though she fears her mother's reaction, Pilar decides to stay in town and won't change her mind. Embarrassed to find her wearing only a short robe and still angry after what she said last night to him and Michelle, Jesse angrily lays into Drew for flaunting "her body parts" all over the apartment. He reminds her that the only reason he's there is to protect her.

Using wine glasses to hold their scotch, Phillip turns to Rick for assurance that he is not the overbearing man Harlye claims he is. With a bit of the booze under his belt, Rick assures Phillip that he is a great father but adds that he has an overblown ego and always has to be right. Phillip resents the claim and asserts that he's around to pick up the pieces when others fail. Abby interrupts long enough to calm them down until Rick comes up with an idea. Harlye argues with Cassie and Blake about men and how they ruin relationships. Rick takes a page out of "Cyrano" to try to soothe the savage Harlye but the ploy fails. Later, Phillip and Harlye reconcile after Phillip serenades her.

Holly's upset when Fletcher fails to bring Meg by for a visit. She denies that she would hurt Meg, Blake or anyone and tries to kiss him. when he pulls back, Holly panics that he is frightened or sickened by her. She promises herself that she will get her life back. Matt and Vanessa thanks Ross for helping them get back together. Ross advises her that if she doesn't tell the police where Dinah is, the D.A. is ready to prosecute her and send her to prison. Seeing Cassie with Blake, Vanessa intrudes and offers to apologize but Cassie's not interested unless she tells her where Dinah can be found. Vanessa claims that Dinah would not come back to town but Cassie shows her an e-mail she received from Dinah and calls it a threat.
