David confirms Liza's suspicion that his mother set the news hounds on Erica's trail. Meanwhile, Vanessa complains to Adam that despite all her efforts to be a good mother David turned out rotten to the core. Staring at Braden's feet, Kit suddenly becomes agitated and flies from the courtroom. When his brother urges him to tell the truth, Ryan finally recants his confession. Though Liza offers him a sympathetic ear, David balks at revisiting his painful childhood just to explain why he hates his own mother. Kneeling in The pit's parking lot, Kit struggles to remember the events of Halloween night and realizes in horror that she did accuse the wrong man. Adam angrily confronts David after the story of Erica's bizarre press conference hits the front page of the local paper.

Opal is outraged to find Palmer removing valuables from the mansion behind her back. Vanessa suggests to her son that he seems to have lost all his objectivity where Erica is concerned, then speculates that David is not motivated by lust but rather by guilt. Stuart attempts to mediate in the Cortlandts' squabble but comes down firmly on Opal 5 side when Palmer treats them both with contempt. At the courthouse, the judge sentences Ryan to ten years at Statesville without the possibility of parole. To Hayley's great relief, Braden suddenly barges in and announces that he had consentual sex with Kit on the night she claimed she was raped. When Jackson reminds the court of the 70% DNA match, Braden reveals that he is Ryan's brother.

When Ryan still refuses to recant his confession, Hayley encourages her friend to explain why he believes he owes his brother ten long years of his life. Brooke and Edmund accompany Kit to the courthouse to lend her their moral support as she watches her rapist sentenced. Adrian, Tad and Dixie accost Braden at the airport before he can board his flight to Tokyo. David is forced to tell Erica that her face is indeed badly scarred. Meanwhile, a bristling Liza accuses Vanessa of deliberately misdirecting the urgent message she left for Hayward. Erica informs David that his mother was the one who said the damage to her face was devastating and irreversible. Ryan sadly describes for Hayley how Braden took all the beatings while he hid in terror from their abusive father.

A dejected Gillian comes to the courthouse for Ryan's sentencing hearing. Meanwhile, Hayley takes one last stab at convincing her friend to recant his confession. A gloating Vanessa tells David that his professional reputation is about to get trashed once the world gets a good look at the remodeled Erica Kane. At Pine Valley High, Erica sweetly informs the horde of reporters they'll have to disperse now because she's promised Jerry an exclusive. Adam intervenes when he comes upon David angrily shaking his mother. As the reporters murmur in confusion, Erica announces that they are seeing the new face of Enchantment. Tad and Dixie return to Pine Valley and tell Ryan they know he~s protecting his big brother, Braden.

Trevor and Dimitri find evidence that Erica spent some time in Mona's house. David angrily accuses Vanessa of dropping a bombshell on his patient out of sheer spite. Liza gets a possible lead on where the missing Ms. Kane might have landed. Meanwhile, Erica heads to Pine Valley High and talks the custodian into letting her use the school library for an interview. Dixie and Tad take a drive out to Ryan's hometown to check into the possibility that he has family ties to Braden. Caught up in memories of her youthful glories, Erica cheerfully welcomes Jerry and his camera crew but seems oblivious to the fact that she's sporting a large bandage over half her face. Jackson warns Braden he'll live to regret it if he dares to intimidate Kit ever again.

Myrtle returns to the boarding house and finds a desolate Gillian crying alone in the dark. Kit goes to the jail and bitterly informs Ryan his bogus apology won t work because she would never ask for his sentence to be reduced. Dimitri cautions David that the news about Erica's scarred face will completely destroy her. Meanwhile, Erica happily chatters on to Vanessa about her plan to portray all the most glamorous Hollywood stars for her next ad campaign. When Erica reveals that she's going to start production on her new TV special in a mere two weeks, Vanessa icily advises her to call off the photo shoot. Myrtle assures Gillian she knows Ryan is innocent of the crime to which he's confessed.

As Kit plans a birthday party for Maddie at Wildwind, Edmund presses his brother to apologize to their houseguest for doubting her story. Myrtle brings Ryan a Care package along with some kindly words of support. David bitterly accuses Vanessa of driving his father to take his own life. Adam suggests to a perplexed Liza that they elope immediately so Colby's birth certificate will be guaranteed to carry the Chandler name. Insisting that her time is short, Vanessa again entreats her estranged son to reconcile their differences before it's too late. Unable to forgive or forget, David accuses his mother of feigning maternal feelings simply in order to steal him blind. Impressed with Kit's poise under fire, Edmund commends her for facing adversity with such admirable courage.

Hayley confides to Tad and Dixie her suspicion that Ryan is protecting Braden. Brooke visits Ryan's jail cell and offers to help him enroll in a sex crime therapy program at Statesville. Erica throws herself into finalizing plans for her glamorous return to modeling via a prime time TV special. Liza tries to calm the waters as dueling dads Adam and Jake face off on the subject of baby Colby. David is annoyed to find Vanessa snooping through Erica's medical file. Informing his mother he knows that her latest lover left her penniless, David orders Vanessa to keep her clammy hands out of his life. Ryan tells Brooke his dysfunctional childhood left him without ethics or principles or an ability to trust the people around him.

Liza takes Adam to task for interfering in her handling of the delicate situation involving Jake. Meanwhile, Jake becomes embroiled in a bar fight with a man three times his size and has to be rescued by Tad and Joe. Mateo shows a delighted Hayley the location he's chosen as the site for their new club. At the jail, Braden lashes out at Ryan for screwing up his plan by foolishly confessing to the rape. Gillian begins to wonder if finding her with David made her husband so crazed that he could have been capable of attacking Kit Fisher. Liza reminds Adam that some of Jake's concerns about their impending marriage are well-founded. Ryan explains to his fuming brother why he chose to protect him with a bogus confession.

Hayley is taken aback when Max asks why she doesn't t like his mommy. Adam suggests to Liza that everybody will be much better off if Jake has absolutely nothing to do with baby Colby. Meanwhile, a fuming Marian corners Jake and warns him not to do anything to disrupt her daughter's happiness. Erica decides to take matters into her own hands and begins to remove her bandages. Adam continues to work on Liza to renege on her promise to the Martin brothers and name Stuart and Marian as their child's godparents. Hayley carefully explains to Max how grownups can sometime argue over differences but can still remain friends. Jake tells his father and brother he's contemplating taking legal action to stake his rightful claim on Liza's unborn child.

A dejected Jake tells his dad how Liza made it clear she wants Adam to be her child's one and only father. Meanwhile, Liza consoles a visibly shaken Adam following his visit to Erica at the hospital. As he changes the dressing on his patient's face, Dr. Weiss makes excuses to avoid letting Erica see her reflection. When the plastic surgeon finally begins to explain the severity of her wounds, David bursts in and intervenes before Erica can hear the truth. Liza asks Marian for help dealing with Jake's sudden desire to be a dad. Adrian drops by to as Belinda why she hasn't returned any of his calls. Vanessa eavesdrops on her son as he quarrels with Dr. Weiss about the questionable wisdom of letting Erica build up false hopes about her appearance once the bandages come off.

An enraged Braden corners Kit again upon learning that Ryan has made a full confession. Meanwhile, at the jail, Gillian stubbornly refuses to believe her husband's story. Jackson rushes to the hospital after hearing about the accident but Dimitri icily advises the D.A. not to add to Erica's suffering. Ryan tries to deliberately wound Gillian's feelings and drive her away. Adrian and Tad continue to dig for information on the mysterious Braden. Trevor tells Ryan he's struck a deal with the prosecution to plea bargain down to a lesser charge which will cost him five to ten years behind bars. Playing on the friendship they forged in New York, Dixie tries to get Braden to open up about his past.

Raquel appeals to Edmund for sympathy and understanding, then realizes he hasn't yet been clued in about her stunt with Max. At the jail, Hayley presses Ryan to explain why he's confessed to a horrible crime which he didn't commit. Blissfully unaware of the latest turn of events, Gillian tells Braden she~s confident her husband will soon be a free man. Meanwhile, as Jackson prepares for Ryans's sentencing, Kit shakily wonders why her attacker would so abruptly change his mind for no apparent reason. Raquel explains to Edmund how she hid Max at the hunting lodge to make Hayley look bad. Although Ryan sticks to his story, Hayley remains convinced that his confession is bogus and speculates that her friend is covering for the real rapist.

David holds his breath as Erica begins to recall some of the details of their ill-fated trip through the blizzard. Braden accosts Kit once again and strongly suggests that she recant her story about the rape. Meanwhile, at the jail, Hayley is puzzled by Ryan's declaration that he must pay an old debt long overdue. When Trevor and Jackson arrive, Hayley listens in shock as Ryan confesses to raping Kit. David gives Adam his skewered version of how the accident occurred but Erica insists there must be more to the story. Later, Erica describes for Adam her plan to do a glamorous new photo layout as soon as she leaves the hospital. A grateful Gillian takes comfort in some kind words from her cousin Dimitri.

Tad and Adrian put their heads together to start ferreting out the truth about Braden. At the jail, Ryan asks his big brother why he took all the beatings for both of them during the turbulent years they spent with their abusive parents. Myrtle tells Janet she fears the worst when Erica's bandages are finally removed from her face. Meanwhile, Erica stubbornly refuses to take any medication for her chest pain. During a painful stroll down memory lane, Ryan recalls a particularly violent outburst from their father which nearly ended Braden's young life. Dixie referees another spat between Opal's bickering sons. David orders a bristling Myrtle not to let Erica know how badly scarred she really is.

The mystery deepens after Dixie and Tad discover that Braden has effectively covered his tracks even with the personnel department at Cortland Electronics. At the jail, Braden urges Ryan not to cop a plea because he could still go scott free in time. Blissful newlyweds Stuart and Marian explain to Adam how they've been honeymooning at the gatehouse instead of in Paris. Liza shrugs off Jake's warning about her future husband, assuring him she's ready for anything Adam can dish out. Confronted by his niece and Tad, Palmer admits he hired Braden to keep him quiet about Dixie's illness. Braden tells Ryan he's tantalizingly close to getting everything he wants out of Palmer Cortland. Hayley dishes out some marital advice to an unhappy Gillian.
