David otters to escort Liza to the Crystal Ball but is irritated to learn that she's already accepted a similar invitation from Adam. After Hayley brings word that their names were left off the guest list, Ryan and Gillian decide to crash the party and show the world they have nothing to be ashamed of. Liza explains to David why she prefers to deal with the devil she knows instead of wandering into uncharted territory. Taken aback by Hayley's flash of jealousy, Mateo assures her he isn't fooling around with Raquel behind her back. After Myrtle gets wind of the accusations against her new boarder, Ryan swears he's innocent of the rape charge but offers to leave the rooming house if it would put his landladies fears to rest.

Adrian helps opal put a dollar value on each of Palmer's valuable antiques as they prepare for the divorce settlement. At Wildwind, a frazzled Edmund admits to Mateo he's afraid he's losing Maria all over again. Hayley catches Raquel admiring herself in the mirror as she holds her rival's gown up in front of her. Irked to think that the interloper is trying to take over her place in Mateo's life, Hayley vows to put the brakes on Raquel's misguided ambitions. Dixie attempts to mediate between her uncle and opal as Braden, Tad and Adrian chime in to take sides in the war of words. Dimitri coaxes Erica to accompany him to the Crystal Ball. Later, Brooke asks Dimitri if he would escort her to the New Year's Eve bash but is disappointed to learn he~s already spoken for.

Appalled by her uncle's obvious intention to engage opal in an ugly custody battle, Dixie tells Braden she's worried that when she's gone there won't be anyone who puts Junior's interests first. Gillian is thrilled when Ryan returns to her room with a fervent declaration of love. At Wildwind, Raquel thanks Mateo for letting her enjoy some semblance of a real family with him and their son. Tad bumps into Kit and wastes no time berating her yet again for the misery she caused him back in Napa. Remembering Palmer's edict, Braden sets out to make himself indispensable to Dixie. Ryan and Gillian spend a long, lingering afternoon in bed together. Kit explains to a skeptical Tad how much she wants to make up for all the pain she inflicted upon him.

Gillian entreats Ryan to tell her what she can do to earn back his trust after betraying him with David. Tad is pleased to learn that Adrian plans to leave Pine valley behind by the end of January. Palmer orders his private detective to dig up enough dirt on Opal to ensure that she will never get custody of Petie. Max is thrilled when Raquel accepts Hayley's invitation to move into Wildwind. Ryan reminds Gillian how fearful he is of getting close to anyone because he's been badly hurt so many times before. Dixie scolds her uncle for trying to punish Opal so cruelly. Adrian explains to an appalled Tad how Palmer is attempting to gain sole custody of Opal' young son. Myrtle advises Ryan to simply forgive and forget if he hopes to have a future with Gillian.

Dixie and Braden head out for a night at a country-western bar but are taken aback to find Tad in attendance as well. Gillian makes another attempt to give David the brush-off. As she tucks her daughter into bed, Janet promises Amanda they won't adopt another dog until everyone in the family agrees that it's the right time. Meanwhile, out on the porch, the stray pooch notices smoke curling out from under the door and begins barking frantically. Adam treats Liza to a home-cooked meal and lots of TLC after they return to her place following the amnio. Watching Tad laughing with his date from across the room, Dixie enlists Braden in a plot to drive away her ex-husband's blonde companion. David steps up his scheme to expose the true paternity of Liza's unborn child.

Though Opal tries desperately to tend off the attorney's questions, Belinda finally forces her to confess that her all- consuming interest in Adrian is because she is in fact his real mother. Sobbing, Opal admits how much she wishes she could blurt out the truth to her long-lost son. Amanda finds it difficult to get into the holiday spirit as she faces her first Christmas without Harold. Edmund suffers mixed emotions as he struggles to sort out his feelings for Kit. Opal tearfully explains to Belinda why she had to give up her son in order to protect the baby from the clutches of the racist Ray Gardner. Showing dogged determination, the stray pooch escapes from the animal shelter and makes his way to the Dillon house once again.

Edmund invites Kit to spend the holidays with him and his family. Hayley's hackles rise when Mateo suggests that it would be best for Max if Raquel moved into Wildwind for a while. Fretful about Adrian's sudden disappearance, opal goes to Belinda's room and is flustered to find her houseguest in the attorney's bed. A concerned Tad urges Dixie to tell him the truth about her health. Braden quickly intervenes and informs Tad that he and Dixie are now an item. Jackson is touched when Kit hands him her cross and asks him to give it to Lily. Hayley argues with Mateo about the wisdom of allowing Raquel to worm her way back into his life. Hurt and confused, Tad finds it hard to swallow Braden's story until Dixie reluctantly confirms that she was in New York with Palmer's assistant.

Edmund guesses that Hayley is less than thrilled about Wildwind's newest house guests. Meanwhile, Mateo enjoys an early morning pillow tight with Raquel and a giggling Max. Tad is concerned when Dixie suddenly begins gasping for breath as they converse in the hall of the hospital. Claiming that her dizziness is simply due to low blood sugar, Dixie vanishes into David's office, leaving a puzzled Tad scratching his head. Jackson tells Kit he must go be with Lily after receiving word that his adopted daughter is recuperating from a serious injury. Dejected by another legal setback, Raquel asks a sympathetic Edmund to watch over Max during his stay at Wildwind's. Dixie reminds David why Tad must never know the truth about the state of her health.

Frightened to awaken in a strange bed, Max cries for his mommy as Mateo attempts to comfort him. Tad bumps into Dixie in the park. Gillian shrilly objects when she finds Jackson directing a lab technician to draw blood from Ryan. Amused by his wife's misguided show of loyalty, Ryan explains to her that he voluntarily agreed to provide a DNA sample for testing in the rape case. unable to calm his young son, Mateo phones the Pine Cone motel and asks Raquel to come to Wildwind. Gillian is sickened to realize that her supreme sacrifice was completely unnecessary now that Ryan has struck a deal for his freedom. Edmund relates for Kit some of his happiest memories of Maria. Dixie jumps when Tad innocently inquires about her brother's health.

Hayley asks a startled Dixie for some advice on how to become the world's greatest step-mom. Meanwhile, Raquel explains to Max why he has to spend some time with his dad while she remains behind at the motel. Taken aback David's conditions for the loan, Gillian sputters in protest but he refuses to budge. Amanda has a dream about Harold and is disappointed when she awakes to find that her beloved pet is still gone. Hayley admits to Dixie how much she resents the way Raquel has completely turned her life upside down. Gillian tries to find another way to raise bail for Ryan but comes up empty. When the stray pooch returns to the Dillon house once more, Tim suggests to his dad they give the dog a permanent home.

Ryan is arrested again after punching Edmund in an effort to protect Gillian. Adam orders Dixie to come clean after catching her in a series of lies about her recent disappearance. Raquel is devastated when the judge awards temporary custody of Max to Mateo. Certain she's about to lose everything she loves, Raquel begs Mateo not to take her son. As Dixie squirms under Adam's interrogation, Braden steps in to help out with a story about a romantic rendezvous in New York City. Though Gillian pleads with her cousin not to press charges, Edmund reminds her that her husband is a rapist and a danger to society. Later, Gillian causes a scene in night court when Ryan's bail is set at a half million dollars.

During a recess in the custody hearing, an angry Mateo demands to know why Trevor switched legal strategies without even consulting him. Belinda is pleased when Adrian claims to have had a change of heart about his "woman in every port" philosophy. Jackson informs Derek that the case against Ryan will go forward, full steam ahead. Braden hits on Gillian, who explains why she can't complicate her life any further by striking up a new friendship with any handsome young men. Dixie cautions Junior not to waste his time playing matchmaker for her and Tad. Trevor tells Mateo and Hayley why suing for sole temporary custody gives them some wiggle room when the divorce negotiations get down to the real nitty gritty.

Gillian brings Eugenia down to the police station to help her convince Derek that Ryan is innocent of all charges. Edmund asks Kit to give him one good reason why he should believe her story about Ryan. Admitting that she's been a con woman for most of her life, Kit swears to Edmund she told the whole truth and nothing but the truth about what happened to her on Halloween night. Gillian's rambling "tell-all" statement to Derek only serves to strengthen the case against her husband. Belinda asks Adrian why he seems to have lost interest in her all of a sudden. Raquel corners Hayley at the courthouse and accuses her of spearheading the custody battle out of spite because she can't have a child of her own.

Dixie and Tad have an awkward reunion at the Chandler mansion. An incensed Jackson orders Erica to stop harassing his sister or else. A frightened Liza clings to Adam after hearing some troubling news from Dr. Clayder. Meanwhile, David hopes that forcing Liza to undergo amniocentesis will expose Adam's secret. Dimitri reminds his brother that they both know Ryan isn't capable of an abhorrent act like rape. Junior happily welcomes his mother home and is relieved when she announces that they'll be staying on in Pine valley for a while longer. Ryan agrees to let Gillian help him find an apartment. Erica tearfully relates for Jackson how traumatized she was after one of her father's friends raped her on her fourteenth birthday.

David encourages Liza to undergo an amniocentesis but she balks at agreeing to an invasive procedure which hardly seems necessary and could prove dangerous to her unborn child. Gillian entreats Ryan to let her help him through his current crisis. Upon learning that Tad has finally exposed her past, Kit assures Jackson and Edmund she's not the same cruel liar she used to be. Ryan admits to a relieved Gillian that he lied to her about sleeping with another woman on Halloween. Adam coldly advises David to stick to cardiology and stop butting into Liza's pregnancy. Later, when a tearful Hayley confides her problems concerning Max, Adam reminds his daughter how well things worked out after she unexpectedly burst into his life eight years ago.

Amanda becomes upset when the same dog which was trailing her at the mall turns up on the Dillons' front porch. David's plan to expose Adam in front of Liza and the viewing public hits a major snag after the clinic manager names some faceless corporate entity as the owner. Tad informs Edmund and Jackson that Kit once accused him of rape when he threatened to turn her in for embezzling from Nola. Meanwhile, Ryan approaches Kit in the park and demands to know why she has falsely accused him of attacking her. Complaining that the stray pooch is nothing like her beloved Harold, Amanda appeals to her mother to send the dog away. Off camera, David angrily accuses Sally of kowtowing to Adam Chandler's wealth.

Adam invites Marian to breakfast and tries to cajole his wary future sister-in-law into helping him win Liza's heart. At WRCW, Ryan hands in his resignation, explaining to Liza how he doesn't want the station to suffer any back-lash now that he's been accused of rape. Worried about being vilified on the witness stand, Kit tells Edmund and Jackson she won't press charges against her attacker. Though Adam offers to foot the bill for the extravagant wedding of her dreams if she aids his scheme, Marian reminds him that Liza is carrying another man's child and so has clearly moved on with her life. Jackson convinces his sister to change her mind and move ahead with the rape prosecution.

Tad is startled to learn that Liza squashed his budding romance with Wendy by spreading an unsavory rumor about him. Trevor comes to the precinct house to otter his professional services to Ryan as Jackson and Derek interrogate their suspect. Meanwhile, outside the interview room, a hysterical Gillian causes a scene by shrilly proclaiming her husband's innocence. At the hunting lodge, Edmund stays close to Kit and comforts her as she relives her recent ordeal. Dixie promises a relieved Palmer she won't have anything more to do with Tad. Later, Dixie privately explains to Braden why she chose not to reveal the truth about her condition to her uncle. Facing Tad's wrath, Liza calmly reminds him that she was simply paying him back for attacking David.

Trevor catches Raquel trying to flee from the Pine Cone motel with her son in tow. Liza tells Adam she isn't ready to give him an answer. After watching her husband being taken into custody, a panicked Gillian runs to David and begs him for help. Meanwhile, at the precinct house, Ryan insists he doesn't need an attorney because he has nothing to hide. Edmund promises Kit he'll see to it that Ryan rots in jail if he did indeed rape her. Worried about his secret coming out, Adam attempts to prevent Liza from meeting with David. As Jackson looks on, Ryan explains to Derek how Kit threw herself at him in no uncertain terms during that night at the bar. Trevor warns Raquel she's being monitored around the clock to prevent her from leaving town with Max.

Returning to her room at the Pine Cone, Raquel complains to Angela that Mateo is trying to buy her off in order to coerce her into agreeing to joint custody. Kit becomes hysterical when Ryan tries to help her on with her coat. As Edmund calms Kit, Jackson furiously corners Ryan with questions about his sister's panic attack. Adam attempts to prove to a suspicious Liza that his declaration of love is genuine and enduring. Hayley encourages Mateo to believe that he will have the chance to be a real dad to his adorable young son. Though Angela advises her angry cousin to let Mateo share custody, Raquel decides to disappear with her son instead. Gillian's remarks about her husband "getting lucky" on Halloween prompt pointed inquiries from Jackson.
