The positive side is we caught fish. We caught a total of 10 blues. The problem was the size. They are turds this year. But hopefully when fall starts those turds will turn in to choppers. The wind was straight out of the east but it didn't stop the blues from biting. The best bite was between 11am to 1pm. No fish were caught on chicken yesterday. All were caught on fresh mullet on mullet rigs. |

last week they started out small 6-8 inches then then 13-16inch ones showed up and disappeared.

Just down the beach at Savage's Ditch, I caught 2 short stripers and 1 short flounder on chicken but no blues. Small blues like the ones you caught last Tuesday at Cape Henlopen. |

I forgot to post earlier but did pretty well back on 9/19 at 3rs hitting decent size blues up to 18". Probably totalled 25 or so between the two of us most in the 12-14" range. Had to really feel 'em out with the mullet rigs, but tossed a mullet on the bottom a few times and came up with a shark, a large skate, a flounder and a couple of blues that way. Going to try our luck again next weekend. |

Walter, Just curious about the chicken technique. What cut of chicken? Breast, tenders? Must you soak it in something? How does that stay on the hook? |

Stilllearnin - the best chicken breast is the cheap chicken breast with the fat. You can purchase shedder oil at just about any fishing tackle shops at the beach. Cut the chicken into strips about the size you would use for squid (about the size of your hooks you are using) and they stay on your hook pretty good. If they are in the water a long time sometimes they do get a little soft and soggy looking...when that happens I just replace it with fresh purdue peeler. |

I still like using boneless thighs. I think it works just as good and if you cut the strips with the grain it stays on the hook a lot better. JMO. Ron DMS #288 |

Mix some kosher salt with the shredder oil and chicken mix and it will toughen the bird up and stay on the hook better. |
