A group of us are heading to Hatteras this Sunday to represent DMS in the Hatteras Surf fishing Tournament. Our team came in second in 2007 and Hurricane Hanna blew us out last year! We've got some fresh blood on the team this year and hopefully we can bring home the gold! Send good vibes our way! | ||

Leavin' in 6 hours! Taking some of the wives with us! Gonna be an awesome week ! Gotta love extended family! I guess by all of the exclamation marks, you can tell I am psyched! This is what I call a no lose situation. If we win the tournament , Great, if we don't it's still all good, cuz we got away and spent time with great friends! Well guys thanks for all the best wishes! We are all home safe and had an awesome time even though it RAINED the first three and a half days we were there, I guess a better word would be POURED! And the wind BLEW! But we made the best of it and managed to have fun and relax. Wish I could have stayed a little longer, no make that ALOT longer! Any way, I couldn't find my digital camera before I left but, found it in my tackle bag once we got there! What a great surprise! But the bigger surprise was the battery was dead and I didn't have the charger.  Oh well I am sure some of the others will e-mail me some pics and I'll try to post them later. | ||

Oh I guess you all wanted to know how we did! LOL Well, our first two stations were in Frisco and we kicked arse during the first session! So we thought. We had 36 ? fish for 106 points! The session winner had 117 points . But we were in second place! The second session we had 42? fish for 103 points! Figured we were on a roll but a team had like 75 fish and jumped into first place which pushed us to third. We weren't really that far behind and figured if we could stay on our roll we were good to go. After that session, we went to the sound side to net some fresh mullet for the second day. Well, with one cast from Shaun, and one cast by me, we filled half of a bushel basket! I've never seen mullet that thick! We were throwing whole mullet rigs and figured we better get a few more in case the bite was as good the next day. Well, much to our dismay, Saturday's sessions left much to be desired. I think we got 30 something points in the morning. Bruce did catch a spanish, on of all things, one of Stan's mullet rigs, that helped out alot. I caught 0, that's right, the big zero! But, we still managed to hold on to third place. Well the afternoon station looked good and we caught a couple small blues right away, then the wind changed and the bite DIED! Then out of nowhere, Shaun gets slammed! Another spanish! This time on a doodle bug! That helped tremendously but we still ended the session with only 18 points. And I had 0 ! Yup, the big zero for Ringo AGAIN! I guess I shot my wad the first day. But even without staying on our roll and catching fish like we did the first day, we still had fun! It would have been nice to bring home the gold but we didn't. There were 79 teams in the tournament and we tried our hardest to be number one! Well, it wasn't meant to be this year, there were 76 teams that did worse than us so in my calculations, that means we ended up third! And I'll take that. We won a nice trophy, a 8' Okuma rod which will be awesome for throwing metal and a reel to match! Thanks for all your well wishes and I hope to have some pics soon! Ringo | ||

Not sure about next year. The tourney has gone way downhill as far as I'm concerned. When they announced us as third place winners, before we even made it up to receive our award, they announced the second place team and then the first place team. They were just handing out stuff and there were no handshakes or congratulations or anything. The "big" raffle tickets were 3 for $5 and most folks bought $10 worth. I think there were 6 prizes and all of those were donated stays @ local hotels and stuff. It seemed to be more of a money making event than a good tournament to me. Nothing at all like the DMS tournament! | ||

It seemed to be more of a money making event than a good tournament Sounds like the topic of conversation at a DMS meeting regarding this tourney......like two years ago.....or whenever it was brought up about HVCA not supporting beach access. Yet we still support the tourney.....Hmmmmm. Mike | ||
