This was a first ...... a guy set up today at low tide near the pier for sharks where the fly guys fish. Paddled a yak out past the pier, dropped his baits and paddled back with his rods to the beach and staked them. Between him and his baits were 4 fly fishermen in the water out to near the pump station and a pier full of fishermen. All I could think was IF (a big if) he hooked a good size shark and was using braided line how did he think he wasn't going to injure the fly guys if the fish moved away from the pier and towards the ferry? Two of the fly guys were wet wading in shorts too. Unbelievable!!!!!!!!!! I can say I have seen it all now!!!!!! |

Jim, you should have made a trip down to HP. My 5 year old neighbor wanted to shark fish. We had no luck and he had a great time. No one else on the beach when we left. Left about 9:30 and seen the shark kids going on at the navy. Rick |

That is just stupid Jim. I think he could not get past the waves last night and could not cast to the sharks. I would not even let my little buddy in the water with the big surf. I could hold with 6 and was using heads last nigh. This is another of the internet problems, catch a few and post them(i guess bragging) on the internet and now every dumb guy with a kayak will try to outdo you. I am surprised that more are not bitten. If people would just use common sense. Rick |

I was down Saturday and on the beach at 3R's when they came thru dragging Kayak and went about 400' N from me, set up and used the kayak to put baited hook out... I had to laugh as the swimmers next to me finally came out of the water and commented to me about how stupid it was that someone thought they could launch a kayak in those waves... I commented that I didn't think it was any dumber than swimming in those waves and rips when all the guarded beaches where closed to swimming for safety reasons and yet they were out swimming here and added "by the way, you do realize they are shark fishing don't you" - that really got their attention and after I told about the ones caught last month, the one guy went and got his iphone and looked up the link on here and was stunned that they "could have been swimming with the sharks"... at that point I added " well you do realize that this is a FISHING beach don't you ??" Woman added "oh is that why everyone has all that stuff like you have ? We come here every week to party .... noone ever told us we should be fishing.... I wished them a safe trip and went about checking my rod..... |

That was hilarious Tacklemom. Do you think they (the powers that be) will stop us from fishing for sharks if someone were to get bit? |

Rick, I was down on the flats last week due to the tides and expected to see you there at least once. Yesterday, I metal detected coin beach hoping the wave action the past few days took some sand away. Just the opposite happened .... It threw it all up on the beach. Seeing that I knew I wouldn't find much but I took the walk anyway being as I timed this trip to low tide anyway. I found what I expected .... Nuttin! ;) |
