Invitations for the 3rd Annual DMS Invitational Tournament, scheduled for October 9 - 11, will be sent out shortly. This is a surf-fishing event; you do NOT need to be a member of the Delaware Mobile Surf-fishermen (DMS) to participate. Friday the 9th is set aside for registration, with Tournament fishing going on Saturday and Sunday. Over 250 anglers participated last year; we have room for more!

Last year's participants will have a place guaranteed IF their entry is postmarked no later than September 3. Others will be accepted on a first come, first served basis up to that date. The fishing area covers much of the Delaware Seashore State Park and includes areas for those who choose to walk-on.

The DMS Invitational is family-friendly and offers great prizes for everyone, with Overall, Women’s and Youth Divisions as well as a post-Tournament meal preceding the Awards Ceremony. Full details will be announced once they are finalized by the Tournament Committee.

If you want an application, e-mail your name and address to dmstournament@verizon.net

Good luck, and see you on the beach!

George...I couldn't find my book from last year. I know all anglers "must bait and cast their own rods"...was there assistance allowed for kids? My 3 yr. old can' quite cast yet....he's trying!

This tournament is probably one of the most fun ones I have ever been involved with! No, I take that back. It IS the BEST one!
Lots of fun, food, raffles and prizes!
I'd really like to be able to fish it but, I think DMS has other plans for me again this year!

Invitations have been mailed to last year's entrants and should arrive shortly. Those who have requested one via email have the invitation in thier in-box. Email dmstournament@verizon.net and include DMS Touney in the subject like for Tournament information.

I guess I can hold back until the following week and take all my frustrations out at the AMSA tournament. It won't be as much fun but.......
A man's got to do what a man's got to do! LOL
Seriously folks, this is an awesome tournament and one that you want to get in on. It is an invitational and soon all of the slots will be filled. You still have a chance to get your name on the list this year which will reserve a spot for you in years to come. Don't wait until there is a waiting list like so many other invitationals! Ask anyone that fished it last year, or the year before for that matter. It IS ALOT of FUN!
Even the kids get awesome prizes!

Ringo, This year you are not allowed to buy the rod I will be making for the raffle. This year the rod is a SU1502 RAINSHADOW BLANK RATED 4-10 OZ. The rod is dual wrapped for spinning or conv. It's metallic blue and gold with the DMS LOGO on it. It's the last of 30/70 split rods. If I can I'll try to take some picture of it and post them, might need your help. Morty I'll bring it down this weekend for you. I'll call when i get down. Thanks Stan.

Easy guys! Everything was on the up and up. And thanks Stan for re-doing the cork grip on the patriotic one from Lurefest! I owe you for that brother! This one sounds like a real purty one, I might just have to crack open my piggy bank. LOL
Now, let me get this right,
I can't fish the tournament,
I can't win or buy the rod,
I can't drink while I'm judging,
Why the hell am I even doing this? LOL

Even though I already have a 1502 I think I could handle that one as well. Hopefully I can make the tourney but I'm not sure yet. I'm supposed to go to Montauk around then if I can get an answer from the guy organizing the trip.

Hey Morty...
Ya know what would be really cool? If the DMS website actually had some info for the tournament on it. Heck....if it was even on the calendar page so people knew when it was...that would be good. Maybe have a downloadable or printable application...that might be cool.

Then again....I ain't the brightest bulb in the pack.

There are still openings available for the tournament folks.
I will be fishing it next year so you'd better take advantage now! LOL
I got a chance to see some of the prizes that will be awarded to some of the lucky anglers! In addition to the cash prizes!
The back of Morty's truck had a bunch of real nice stuff! Some Star, Lami and Tica rods! Numerous nice reels and other stuff too! He said he was still waiting for a few more awesome items that he wouldn't mention!
I will be selling,(and buying), raffle tickets again this year, so bring your $$$ and take a few chances on some real nice stuff. There will be 2 big raffles with numerous smaller, but real nice consolation prizes too! And of course it just wouldn't be the same if we didn't sell a couple decks of 50/50 cards. We have to pay for all this stuff somehow! LOL And with your support, the prizes will get better each year! So come on, request your applications here:
dmstournament@verizon.net
The DMS Invitational is family-friendly and offers great prizes for everyone, with Overall, Women’s and Youth Divisions as well as a post-Tournament meal preceding the Awards Ceremony.
What a great way to spend some quality family time on the beach!

As Ringo posted, there is still space available for this Tournament. Entries are being received at the same pace as last year. I expect that the number of entries will meet or exceed last year's. If you want to mail your entry, make certain it is postmarked NO LATER THAN October 2. I am at the tail end of the mail string, so things take 2 days longer to get here than most every other location.

If you chose to post enter, we accept post-entries at NO additional cost at Tournament HQ on Friday, October 9, bewteen 12 noon and 8 PM. Where is Tournament HQ, you ask? It is at the Savages Ditch Pavilion, located on the southbound side of DE Route#1, about 5 miles south of Dewey Beach. Pre-entered anglers need to pick-up thier registration packet (filled with goodies) at the same times(s) and location.

I'll second Ringo's post about neat stuff to be awarded as prizes. Additionally, through the generosity of several local businesses, there are some very nice raffle prizes in addition to the custom wrapped rod and the 1/2 day charter with Cap'n Mike.

Once again, if you do not have an invitation in hand, e-mail me at dmstournament@verizon.net asap. If you are in the area, Tournament invitations can be picked up at locale B&T shops such as Bill's, Ricks, Old Inlet.

BTW, this post has bee approved by Johnny Ringo! :-)

So the 3 big raffles are:

1. SU1502 RAINSHADOW BLANK RATED 4-10 OZ. The rod is dual wrapped for spinning or conv. It's metallic blue and gold with the DMS LOGO on it.
Custom wrapped by Stan, AKA Swace.
It's real purty! Trust me!

2. 1/2 day charter with Captain Mike Rivera on the "On Delivery" out of IRI. This does not include the mates tip and can be used to upgrade to a full day! Capt. Mike can find fish!

3. A custom cooler rod rack donated by Bill Justice. I've got one on my FJ!

In order to lessen the burden on our landfills and save the trees, once again this year, tickets will be $5 each or 5 for $20.

I am Johnny Ringo and I approve this message. LOL

There will definitely be alot of nice prizes but, that is what this tournament is all about! I still think the coolest thing about this tourney is how "family" oriented it is. Lots of fun, prizes and awards for for everyone, along with some good laughs! Hopefully the weather will be good and the fish that are in the surf now, hang around for another week. Or are replaced with bigger ones! Heard their was a 57" cobia caught off the sand today, and a 27" flounder!

Rob - Yes, there are openings available. I have sent you the entry info. Since it is late, I suggest you bring it to check-in @ Savages Ditch on Friday, Oct 9, between 12 noon and 8 PM. If it is mailed back to us at this point, we may not get it in time.

What a tournament!!!!!
I was so caught up in what was happening and thanking everyone today for supporting DMS, I got lost as far as who won what. LOL
I do remember,
Gary Born took first place $1000
Acie Mankins took second $750
Largest fish was a 21" flounder, caught by a guy that never fished a surf tourney before.$1000
He is hooked now!
And the largest blue was 17"? + over $2000
We gave awards and prizes to over 30 some anglers! My friend finished around 25th and got a nice reel worth $90!
We couldn't have done it without the support of our sponsors and everyone else who donated things.
Thank you to everyone that made this tournament what it was! Looking forward to bigger and better next year!

Thank you for a great tournament, very well run, and a lot of fun. This was my first tournament and even though I didn't catch a scorable fish(14 bluefish from 10 to 13 inches, two 15 1/2 inch flounder, and one 28" sand shark) it was a great time. I was extremely impressed with the organization by the judges and the friendliness of everyone. A special thank you to Blaine and Mike and the 2 judges who helped me pull my truck out of Savage's Ditch on Saturday. I will be back next year. Also hope to be able to attend a DMS meeting. Just hold one on a night other than Thursday. Great job guys!!

What a great tourney, can't wait till next year. I think I ended up around 8th. I need the info on Gary's whole set up, I heard he was non stop and could throw a country mile. I'm also interested in what make of circle hooks were being used. Mr Twardus was third, congratulations Surfishalot! I wasn't a judge Walt but I was in the Yukon that assisted, it just seemed that all 4 wheels would not engage. I also want to give a huge thanks to everyone who made this possible, what an incredible tourney.

I have no idea what was wrong. First time I've gotten stuck since I bought the truck in June. My big mistake was that I put the truck in low 4 which just dug me into a deep hole. I know now not to use L-4 again on the beach. Had no trouble on Sunday other than I couldn't catch much at Conquest. Thanks again for your help.
