I fished this 3RS from the 4th to the 7th and caught two blues and a skate all weekend. There was this one young guy in a gray jeep grand cherokee with big black roof rack that was catching fish all day long. You would think this guy wasn’t even fishing He had the whole family thing going on .. the kids, wife etc. I know he didn’t get on the beach until after 10:00 am and left at 4:30. He caught 8 fish on the 4th. The 5th. I was about 4 trucks away and I know he caught a least 9 fish. The 6th I just lost track at 7. Sunday I parked right next to him. It was slow day Sunday & he caught 3 fish and he was sitting down playing scrabble. I finally went up to this young guy and ask him what he was doing to catch all these blues. He said, it’s all in how you rig the bait. He was using mullet rigs and whole mullet. He said he was disappointed about Sunday’s catch so far because it was the first day he had fresh bait. I never got a chance to see how he was rigging the mullet rigs but I was blown away. Did any one else see this guy? Did anyone see what he was doing?

Regular-
Please allow me to introduce my good friend, T.C. I've fished with him many times and one word can sum up his skills- DAMN!
Weekend trips with 4-5 guys, all told we'll catch 50 fish, T.C. will have caught 35 of them. We fished the Bethany Surf Tourney in early May. He and I were side-by-side ALL DAY. We used the SAME BAIT, ALL DAY. I had one hook-up ALL DAY, at 3:59 (no lie) and the nasty razor-lipped blue shook the hook off in the wash and left me skunked (not the first nor ths last), yet T.C. not only caught fish, he placed in the tourney and walked away with a nice 9' set up. (I didn't sound bitter just then, did I?) He's a machine.
The onlyfish I have ever seen beat him was a big red drum, but that's only cuz he'd never fished 'em before.
He's a great guy and an avid sportsman (PLEASE, don't ever ask him about deer hunting. He'll never shut up).
I'm not telling any of his secrets, but suffice it to say, I'm a better fisherman cuz of him. We're putting his skills to use again on the 26th, so if you see the Cherokee and the dark green Wrangler with the 8-rod rack, stop by and say hi.

Wrangler, Thanks for the invite and the info… That young guy is definitely a magician I believe you when you say, “Weekend trips with 4-5 guys, all told we'll catch 50 fish, T.C. will have caught 35 of them.” He definitely putting on a demonstration of 3RS 101 fish. I had a buddy with me. Who is an excellent fisherman. He couldn’t get over how this young guy was consistently catching fish all day & it seemed that no one else on the beach was pulling too much of anything. He did it from the 4th to the 7th. The next time I’m going to keep a close eye to see how he’s rigging these mullet rigs. He was busy all day long. I mean, I’ll say it again the magician was catching fish when no else up and down the beach seemed to pull in squat. I did notice that he has long cast and is always fooling around with drag. Does he use a standard mullet rig? It looked different from a distance. I fished the tourney also and didn’t do too much myself. Thanks for inside information on deer hunting. Hope to catch up with you guys.

First time reader and post for me on this board.
Interesting info on this board about 3Rs. I fished there from June 30 through July 9 and yesterday was the first day I got skunked! I caught a lot of blues the first part of the time frame. Mostly in the 12-15 inch range.
Looking forward to meeting up with some of you on the beach.

Yup, he uses standard mullett rigs, but he adds a couple of his own twists to them, mainly to keep the bait as fresh and appealing as possible. He has an amazing sense of touch, too. Feels the nibbles and and seems to almost see the perfect time to set the hook.
I'm sure he'll share his secrets with you, I just don't wanna talk out of school. Not to mention the fact that as I won't be able to communicate it as well as he.
I think we're planning to be on the beach Friday between 3-4. I don't know where he was when you saw him, but we ususally hit 3R's and head back north. He's down just about every weekend, so don't hesitate to say "hi" if you see him. (Then again, he does read the board fom time to time, so if he sees this post and his head swells too much, he might get stuck in his house cuz he can't get out the door!)

Tight lines-
