Stayed in Lewes for a week, but didn't do as much fishing as planned due to hot hot weather and crowds. Anyway, here's how I did. 6/29- Henlopen pier. Caught 1 short flounder on spec rig w/squid. Couldn't catch spot for bait (tons of 3 inch croakers kept biting) so I found some old mullet sitting on the pier. First cast with the mullet got me a 25" striper. Second cast got me a 27.5" striper. Then I had to leave and never even got to make a 3rd cast . Kept 1 striper. Fished Lewes beach a little at night but the flounder weren't there. 6/30-Spent the day at the beach and fished the pier at night (yuck). Jigged up 2 trout in the 15" range on 4" grubs. There were MILLIONS of peanut bunker under the lights at night. With all that bait around maybe I was lucky to get anything. 7/1-Did some wading and fished Roosevelt a little. Nothing good 7/2- Went on my traditional headboat trip with a buddy. Seabass fishing was excellent, everybody caught a bunch. We kept about 20 bass and 1 17.75" flounder. 3 of the bass were citation size. Big variety of fish were caught, including seabass, flounder, ling, trout, sea robins, tautog, skate, 1 large shark and a slammer blue took a seabass but busted off at the boat. There was a NMFS guy doing a long survey at the dock, and several of us spoke with him. According to his report, I caught 89,000 pounds of seabass, 26,500 pounds of flounder and 34,000 pounds of bluefin tuna. 7/3-Fished around on shore A.M. Nothing. Fished the pier a little later and caught squat. 7/4-Yay America 7/5-Fished Lewes beach but only sharks obliged. Where are the flounder? I usually catch a bunch from the beach. Fishing was OK at best but as always I had a great time. Didn't want to leave. Tight lines |
