Caught about 2 dozen spot on 3 casts of the ol' cast net last night by Canary Creek last night. They were all in the 4" range....perfect live lining size. Has anybody ever used a "spot trap" before...and did you catch anything? Joe Morris has em' for like 26$...and being a lazy and all it'd be nice to fill one of them up instead of looking around all night with the cast net. Took the ones I caught last night under the lights there in the inlet and caught one undersized rock. So much for having the perfect bait. Talked to a guy who was drifitng and he had marked a lot of stuff with his FF but had only caught sharks and skates.
Well at least that's a good indication on the spot run this year being early and all...hey it beats paying 1.50 a piece for em!!!

Bill's has em' but you'd better take out a loan before you go! Seriously though, i think the bait shops are getting them locally now...at least i know 2 are. The price shouldn't be at the 1.50 a piece range too much longer.

I don't know, maybe I'm crazy. But half the fun of live linning spot is catching the spot on an ultralight rod. Heck sometimes it's more fun than catching the fish your using them as bait for. Like I said maybe I'm crazy? Or to cheap to buy a cast net?

i agree chief,i take the kids and the ultra lights and some central pa garden worms(much tougher than delaware worms and they have a ball.after we are done they usually want to go back to the dock.so dad get to use them for the big fishes!!!!

Thoose Central PA worms got to be tough to live up there, harder to borrow through shale than sand. My big kid (wife) is the one who really has fun catching them. The neat thing is you never know, they may get a big fish while catching them. We were catching them in Old House Channel (Oregon Inlet, NC) when my son was about 5. He had one on some ultra light gear and had a spot picked up by a 15# blue. It went to the other side of the channel and we ended up stoping the entire offshore fleet comming down the channel from fishing offshore. After a long battle we got it in the boat and he got a rousing cheer from the fleet, I was one proud PAPA that day. But too bad I touched the rod, it would have been a line class record. Glad you started this string, brought back memories and makes me even more anxious to get him fishing offshore (16 yrs later).

Its more fun catching Spot with worm hook
& line, then going after the big fellers. IMHO.
