Why is there suddenly so much seaweed in the IR bay and inlet? I haven't seen it this bad in a while. You can hardly fish the bay. It was like this on both Saturday and Sunday. We are already having one of worst years in fishing and this seaweed is not helping. Well I thought I would vent off a little steam. |

OK, question. Saturday morning I fished the jetty from 04:15 to 06:15. Caught two nice stripers before 05:00. At 05:00 the grass moved in. It was hard to make a cast without getting loaded up with grass. Caught nothing after the grass moved in. So the question is does the grass turn the fish off or is it just that you can't make a decent cast and retrieve so therefore you don't catch fish????? Or is it a combination of the two?

Probably has alot to do with the SW wind blowing for the last 2 weeks or so & the low tides being so low. The weeds are normal for this time of year but the W/SW winds are blowing all the weeds and the water out. Small clumps of weeds all the way out to inside the canyons, last time I saw that was just after a hurricane. This might be kind of a stupid suggestion, but has anyone tried weedless hooks in Salt water? I fish alot at Killens and Trap pond when camping with the family. During the summer the weeds get realy bad. So I use weedless hooks and fish the deeper water. The weedless hook probably won't last long, but it's better than pulling in a ton of smelly cabbage. BTW: Has anyone noticed how cool the inshore/surf water is getting from the upwelling? |

they chopped up weeds in the back bays, trying to prevent weed build up. i think they did it about a month ago. with the dredging and weed chopping the water has been really muddy and low on oxygen levels back here too. |

Funny you say that rm2, bro-in-law went to the beach this weekend with the family and got a chance to "hit the surf".. He mentioned to me that he thought the water was a little cool... what are your thoughts? |

Check out the temp charts: http://fermi.jhuapl.edu/avhrr/gs_n/03jul/gs_n_merged.n12.03jul26_2102.png The west/southwest wind is blowing the surface water eastward pulling the cooler bottom water in from deeper water to the beaches. Now that the wind has shifted to the east, might be good for fishing! |

Last Thursday night the news up here said the water temp. at NJ was 59, Sunday on my way home I heard on the radio that the water temp. in Rehoboth wes 57. Sounds more like May water temps. not the end of July. But why not, this year has been out of wack so far and it'll probably be out of wack for the rest of it. Rob, most of the salad on my line was above the hook, eighter on the swivel or on the sinker. Maybe a weed deflector above the hook. Any inventors here? |

Assateague surf temp as of Friday -- 56 Saturday -- 58 2 weeks ago was 72... Had someone come in to Oyster Bay today and say it was 62 at 54th street OCMD Reason why? Surface waters move at a 90 degree right angle to the direction of the wind... so the warm water moves offshore and the cold water circles down from the north East winds mind help some.... But this cold water doesn't seem to be hurting the surf fishing Less people swimming Had a report of a guy who said he was catching 2 kings and croakers at a time, sometimes even 2 trout at a time at 80th street OCMD as soon as the line hit the water... all on squid Big rockfish down the OC Inlet... real bigguns.. had 2 reports of broken 30lb line after a long run! Going out myself tomorrow morning... so don't even bother, there won't be any fish Good fishin' |

Seaweed, seaweed, seaweed. I took the pontoon boat from Fenwick all the way to Chincoteaque on Friday, and saw more seaweed then I could ever have imagined. The whole Chincoteaue bay was full of this stuff, floating in big patties. Easy to avoid when it was glass calm on the way down, but on the way back, in the short chop, you couldn't see it until you were right on it. Only good thing was there were croakers jumping on the boat. All small stuff, 7 - 11 inches, but fun. 2 at a time on squid and minnows. We left them all there to bother the next guys. |
