Saturday went thru IRI at 6:00am sun was bright looking forward to great day. About 20 miles offshore hit the thick fog and had to craw for a long while, good thing we waited for radar to get installed. I tried to call to the Dog to see if fog was as thick out there, we were deciding to turn around or keep going, no one responded so we kept going hoping it would clear. We decided to stop and troll into the dog since it was slow going anyway. Lines in water at 9:15am, knock down right away, not sure what it was it on for only a few seconds. Trolled thru the dog decided there was too much traffic, so we circled around a few times. Two big blue fish on Ballys, another knockdown on cedar plug, again don't know what. Trolled up to the Tea Cup, nothing. Headed in at 3:00, was going to stop at the Lighthouse, but we saw the trawlers working so we stop and tried with them for 20 minutes, nothing. Back through IRI at 5:30pm, covered 145 miles used 145 gallons and ate Pizza for dinner. Kept one blue and cooked with Mayo on grill for appetizer. For the first time as Capt, it was a good safe trip, no problems. Fog stunk. Jim

Jim - Congrats on the trip! First trip out, you got through the fog without issue, got some experience with the radar, and had a few knockdowns. As you said, "good safe trip"! You'll get 'em next time. Mark |

Congrad's on the successfull maiden voyage. As far as fishing goes, I think you did as well as just about everyone else with the exception of Jeff with that big Mahi. I spotted a Cat heading NW as we headed SE in the late afternoon, thought that might be you. I would have called on the VHF but I can't hear anything with the wind noise. I'm hoping we all catch'em up the next trip! |
