So, for a while on Saturday, even the most devout fishermen VIOLATED the surf tag regulations, in theory. Truthfully, DMS held their annual picnic, and the most devout of devout surf fishermen put aside their primary persuit to have a day of great fun. (with the states permission)

As the day moved on and the beach became packed with ORVs, looking southward, where the DMS group was lined up, there were hundreds of rods in the spikes, and people "actively engaged" in fishing. Turn around and look north, and there were almost no rods to be seen. There was easily a 1/4 mile stretch where there were no rods at all. The point I make is that it's not that hard to recreate and fish too. I had a great time, played some horse shoes, watched a kid's casting contest, ate some great food, and.....caught fish.

If the situation is THAT bad that a rod can't even be seen, yet there were reported lines of SUVs stacked up at the entrance of Conquest and Key Box, then there's a big problem with the administration / enforcement of surf fishing tags.

Martin, You missed the opportunity to make a fortune. You should have taken a picture looking South with a solid line of poles and marketed it as a historic photo of "Surf Fishing on Delaware Beaches in the Good Old Days" Phil

I parked at Conquest Road and walked on to get to the DMS picnic. Soon after, they closed the lot because it was full. Saw hardly any people actively engaged in "fishin" on the walk down until I got to the area where the picnic was set up. Then it was like a forest of surf rods. Have to agree that if a photo was taken looking South from the picnic, it would have been one for the history books, or at least Dr. Jay's own version of "A Short History of Delaware From Creation to the Present" album. Just kidding a little.

George, did you get any pics of the beach northwards, intentionally of be accident? I heard from our DNR friends today, and will be in communique. I'd love to show them how preposterous the whole thing is now.

Martin, I'm sure you could get the same picture on any weekend. Interesting how when fishermen and women have permission to be on the beach and not fish, they still can't leave their rods in their trucks.

I havent been on drive on in weeks. But there is no way it can be as rude as the weekly sand poachers on OC beaches. They lay out their bedspreads and beach chairs 'round 9 or 10AM and dont return until noonish. Incredibly rude, pompous and arrogant.

Hey Mdcrabs, you ought to torch their blankets! Make it look like someone accidentally tossed a cigarette on the blanket.
