I'm looking for some good quality foul weather clothing... waders, rain coat, whatever Any suggestions? I'm 5'8" and a scrawny 130lbs so if anyone even comes near to that let me know I just want something that will keep me dry, cool or warm, and will hold up for more than a few uses Good fishin' |

healy henson rainwear. usually available at any sporting store that sells quality stuff. a lot of the commercial guys wear this stuff or grundens although they are a little more pricey. |

This isn't from experience but from what I've read, your big decision will be between lightweight Gortex or rubber. If you really want to keep the water out in heavy weather you need rubber. |

I use Grundens for bibs and a lighter synethic for a coat. But I am searching for a Gruden's pullover but they are hard to find locally. Anyone know where I can find one of these with a hood? |

Definatly Gortex Don't bother with that rubber loose fitting sweaty stuff... Honestly OC, it depends what your planning on doing while you where them. If your talking beach/boat/bridge fishing, I'd go with the rubber suit. But if your talking about using it on the kayak, I would suggest going to NRC website and looking at what they have to offer. There is a ton of stuff for paddling on the market, price will probably determine what you get in regards to kayaking. I personally had the rubber suit and it didn't keep me dry at all, wether it was sweat or rain getting in I don't know. I got a Gortex jacket over the winter and I can't say anyting bad about it. I've been in a downpour for over 12 hours and didn't get wet in it. I also bought a cheaper pair of rain pants at an EMS store that work great also. You can actually zip them completely off and on. I also have a lighter teflon rain jacket that I wear in warmer weather and on the jetty for splash that works great, I also use it on the kayak. What ever you buy, shop around for a deal, with the economy the way it is, you can find sales everywhere. EMS is haveing on now, just got a flyer. |

Eastern Mountain Sports. Thanks Steve, I'll check him out. I like baggy rubbery grundens as I can adjust the layers of clothing underneath to the condtions and they are super durable. Some of the synthetic stuff that I have owned didn't hold up and leaked or became soggy in foul weather. |

For some real tough, light-weight, breatheable rain and wind gear, I bought FROGG-TOGGS. They are about $79.95 for a set(pants and hooded jacket). I can wear them on the hottest and most humid day and they aren't like wearing a rubber wet suit. They are made from DuPont's TYVEK material and are availabe in several colors as well as small-medium-large-and XXL sizes. Check the local shops. I know of lots of places in NC & SC that carry them, including a number of fishing piers. They really keep one dry and comfortable and they are made in the USA. A great many golfers wear them also because they allow for freedom of movement and they are very light-weight. I sometimes forget I am wearing them. |
