Anyone ever fish there? I got invited to go there end of July and will be staying one night. Thought hey with a name like that there has to be fish right?

This island is off Conneticut between the mainland and Long Island.

After that we move on up to Cap Cod. Any suggestions or tips?

I heard the "ditch" is a good place (canal between ocean and bay) which I figure would fish something like our IRI. Seems guys use reeallly heavy jigs there (like 4oz). Why? Any ideas on where to try once I'm there - or local techniques - since this is a first and most likely last trip there.

i fushed the ditch and so did Dick.
pretty neat place to fish for stripers
theres alot of water rolling thru that canal
only boats with a certain amout of power are allowed thru it
one bay drains into another
also look out for lines on the bank and into the water=lobster traps
dont need snags

The Ditch is pretty interesting area to fish. Currents really rips through there. That's why they use such heavy jigs. I think they said a boat drifting throught the ditch reaches something like 7 knots just drifting. :-) (not 100% on this but sounds right). Heavy jigs and large plugs seem to be the prefered method in the Ditch. There's a walking path on either side of the ditch so a bike is a great way to get around. The locals usually just ride up and down looking for birds to cast too. I know there is a bunch of Jersey guys heading up there sometime soon. Goto www.stripersonline.com. Theres alot of guys on that site from that area. They can help you out ALOT more than I can. Maybe you can even join there gig when your up there. It's a fling they do every year and they get together for food and fishing.
