Fished South of DB Sunday morning. We found a pod of larger than normal fish (meaning above 10") for this time of year out there. Stayed within 200 yards of our numbers and we put 23 keepers in the box up to 2lbs. A prolonged slack water situation enabled me to jig a 2 oz singsilver. The jig was fun on seabass and robins. Of course the 21 Parker ran great and we even spent some time marking some nice looking snags on the way in which will be used in the near future once we get a decent wreck anchor. I know it may be tough finding keepers out there but if you leave the crowd at DB and look for fish they are out there. Also had a pilot whale around us a few times. Not a bad day and a good crew to fish with. Sorry no pics, maybe after this Saturdays offshore adventure I hope to have some!

Sounds good on the seabass.

Ninja, tell Frugal to get with me, and I can fix you guys up on a wreck anchor.

Ron:

I'll catch up with you about the wreck anchor. Catching those sea bass and sea robins in 70-80 foot of water gets to the old folks after a while. I got a charliehorse on the top of my forearm, and two nasty fingers from lipping them, and pulling out the hooks. Ninja continues to impress me with the small bass and trash that he can catch on artificials. He has gotten it down to an art. Had a guy with us that used to fish with us a while back, and he tore up his reel on the sea bass. The St. Croix continued to function though.

Ninja and Frugal - Congrats on the catch! It really stinks when you catch so many fish that your body and gear fail :-)

Ron - we need a new wreck anchor (last one just wouldn't come out of the wreck) Do you have the kind with loops at the top and bottom? While we are at it, what are your thoughts on chain attached to the wreck anchor? I have heard arguments both ways. Some argue that you need the chain to aid in hooking the wreck. Others argue that chain just hooks into the wreck and gets stuck.

Our old one had chain and we used it for many years. It always came out easily, when we wanted it to. It also had the loops at the top and bottom, which we feel is a good feature.

Anyone have thoughts either way on the chain?

Gizmo,

Consider crimping vinyl covered cable to your wreck anchor.
