Lots of brown pelicans this year. Welcome guys, so graceful to watch! Wonder what they're eating since there are no fish...piping plovers perhaps? |

And he is banded too. Nice to see them! Allen - Did he have a hurt wing or was he just showing off? I have heard of these guys sometimes forgetting to migrate back south in time and getting caught in a freeze. The bill pouch gets frostbite since there is not enough circulation to keep it warm and then it sloughs off and the poor critter dies of starvation. Anyone ever seen or heard of something like that? How far south do they go? |

Skeeter, he had wing problems. He stayed on the Point in Hatteras for my entire week of vacation. I mentioned to a tackle shop about taking it to the bird recovery on the island and the tackle shop owner said and I quote " Just as fast as you bring him in the front door, theyll be escorting him through the back door, so dont waste your time". I hope he made out alright. He stayed right next to my truck everyday I was out. Pretty cool. AllenC |
