I'm hearing rumors from the OC crowd that the tuna bite is starting to pick up at the hotdog and surrounding lumps, also heard about a half dozen whites where released in the same area as well. Anybody else hear anything or fished the area?
Trying to figure out where the next trip will be.

Heard a lot of chatter on the radio today about a few whites and blue marlin. Also the tuna bite picked up compared to yesterday. A guy lost about a 300 lb Blue Marlin by us yesterday.

Thanks CM for the info.
It'll be nice to at least put one fish in the freezer soon.

We fished yesterday. We were in the chunking tournament. Bad news! Skunk on the tunas. The only reports of tuna fish caught were first thing in the morning on the troll. Mopst fish caught in Baltimore cannon. From what i saw coming into OC there was only about 5 tunas caught all day. There was a better white bite than tuna bite. Some people loaded up on dolphin in the baltimore. there was some debress and one boat caught over 40 dolphin and he said that there was about 1000 down there. Boy the tuna season is slow this year!!

I heard (disclaimer: third hand from a guy I don't know) that Friday's bite was not that bad. A number of guys picked up tuna. One charter had 7.

On Saturday, there were a number of guys complaining about a slow bite. Even some comments that a bluefish hit would be great.

Not looking good for YF this year is it? Looking at the WT charts the warmer water is out past the 1000F line. Maybe August will turn on the heat and bring us the meat.

RM2 - I was talking to a commercial guy on Saturday. He said catching bait is slow this year, about 3-4 weeks behind normal. He said this has been a tough year.

Just about every time I've been out we've seen plenty of bait swimming around. I'm guessing that with the gulf stream so far out to the east the fish are just really spead out.
Well if the weather cooperates I may just sit on a lump (hotdog or someplace nearby) Saturday & Sunday. Wife and daughters want to go to experience the nightlife with all the critters swimming around. Maybe we'll troll up something at first light.
I'll be monitoring 71 if anybody's out and about.

Don't panic. The fish are still south of us, and slowly making their way north. The water temps are still low for the season, and water temp is the catylist for everyting. Some years the Yellowfin bite is starting the last week of June, some the beginning of July. This year it will be August. You can't rush nature, just learn to deal with it. If you don't have the temp, you won't have the plankton, or the Krill, no baitfish, no tuna. There appears to be plenty of squid offshore, and that will gather the Mackeral, and then the gamefish. The bite off the Point in NC is far too strong for this time of year, so they are still catching OUR fish! It won't be too long before they get to us.

Brad,

Last trip was what I figured a total of 200 miles, that's cruising and trolling. Tip of the 1000F at poormans is 89 miles, so yes we can make it out and back just not sure how much trolling time that leaves. I'm figuring I have about 90 gal left from previous trip.
Just read a report that a guy up at West atlantis caught 21 YF up to 90 lbs and a bunch of gaffer dolphin.

If some of the fish have followed the stream out in the deep water up north, when do they come back? Wouldn't that make for a southern migration in the fall?

Sorry if I come across as panicing, really I'm not. Just hoping for an average bite this year. If it's less than that, next year will be better.
