Hi All! Today(Saturday, July 19), I had the pleasure of drift fishing with two other board members (Gradywhite and Matey) out at the northwest corner of the Anchorage (by “D” Bouy). All together, we had a great day! The water was fairly smooth, and there were nine (Yep, thats what I said...9!) keeper flounder boated, ranging from about 19" to 24" in size, as well as several small sand sharks. Most were caught on a minnow/squid combination, with a couple on a peeler/squid combo about two feet off bottom in about 30 ft. of water or less, ( on about #4 longshank hooks). Overall, we had VERY few flounder today that were not well in excess of 20". Here are a couple of pics of some of the fish at the Mispillion cleaning station: |

Today, Sunday, broke bright and beautiful at the inlet in Lewes. We were on the beach by 5:30. Hundreds of large 4" shiners were breaking so we seined up some. Had several hits and misses, caught small crokers on bloods. On the sandbags 3 guys limited on Flounder with minnows and blue fish cut in strips. By 7:00am HUGE rays came in feasting on the shiners. Between the 2nd and 3rd pole they were chasing on top of the water. Some people thought at first they were sharks because you could just see the edges of their wings out of the water. Our Lab enjoyed her first trip to the beach, chasing a bird, playing the a horseshoe crab, and trying to drink MY beer! Gordon hooked up a large ray that had the reel screaming and after 20 mins had it almost on the beach when the hook broke. We packed up and left. No keepers, but what a beautiful morning. |

Congratulations guys. Sounds like you had a great day. I took the grandsons out on Indian River and caught only several small flatties, 4 or 5 croakers, 1 blowfish, and 2 sea robins. Finally moved over to Rehoboth Bay and snagged 4 keeper flatties from 19" to 24". Looks like Rehoboth Bay is the place to fish for flounder right now. I also hear that several nice flounder have been caught in Massey's Ditch. Might try that during the week when there's less boat traffic.

Rcsmith. I have to ask. Is your boat stored at Cedar Creek? The pictures look familiar. It sounds like you had a great catch. Mark |

Mark, I don't own a boat. The one we were on was owned and operated by Gradywhite...it is a VERY nice Parker and he is a very knowledgeable concerning the bay (as well as a great person!), and Yes, the pics were taken at Cedar Creek! Rod |

Wish we did as well as you. Started off Sat. morning about 4:30 at the inlet on the S. Side with Warden, his son Jeff (I think) Coolerpup, Claud, and Charlietuna. Fished till 7am or so with only a few bluefish to show. Saw fishinghal on the way out, hope he did better than us. Nice morning and always fun to fish with friends. Headed back north to Steamboat Landing and headed out with Zenfold on his boat. Went to Beach Ball and had constant action with small croakers. Line wasn't in the water for a full second till the little things were tuggin'. Did manage one small flounder also. Made several drifts and only kept a few croaker to try. Never tried them before. After the bite slowed we moved over around anchorage and tried to drift for flatties, but the tide had slowed. Zen wanted to run his kicker, so we hooked it up and slow trolled and managed 3 more short flounder and a couple skate. Bite stopped after a while so we moved to the wall to try for some tog. Watched an 'Asian' catch a couple keeper tog on the end of the rocks at IRI, so I figured they should still be on the wall......I was wrong.. This was my first time toggling on the wall, what fun. After about the 107th attempt to toss the object into the rock, I finally got it. We tried green crabs and live fleas with nothing but a couple oyster crackers and one bergal(sp?)/cunner to show. The flies were the only thing biting so we broke anchor and headed in around 6 or so. Fished 8 or 9 hours. Used squid, minnies, bucktail, fleas, crabs and mixers of all for bait. Not alot of keeper fish, but we did catch and had a blast. We did see all the rays on top EVERYWHERE on the bay and in the inlet. Never saw so many. Has anyone else noticed more porpoise than usual? Seems to be more this year, but could be just me. All in all a great day on the bay, weather was perfect...

No problem finding minnows. Every bait shop I've been in within the last 3-4 weeks has them. Smiths in Leipsic even has them sorted by size. |
