Ive been hearing a lot about the broadkill river this year, but not quite sure how to get there. DOes it connect to the roosevelt inlet? Also, anyone out there kayak the broadkill? Safe fishing

yak, the broadkill dumps into the roosevelt. Go north on Rt. 1 from Lewes, you will pass a golf course on the right. Make the next left after the course, I think it's rt. 6 or something (the first light you come to after the course). Go all the way out to the T, theres a little store on the far right. Make a right and follow this till it ends. There is a small parking area and a drive on section. Park here and you can either hit the beach or river side. I've never done the broadkill via kayak but I emagine the current would be tough to contend with when it starts to move. A good bit of boat traffic and alot of shore fisherman to watch also. Be careful if you do go and let us know how you do. |

Its Rt.16 east. The Broadkill ends where the Lewes Coast Guard station is and goes all the way to Milton. You can yak towards Milton. Good bass, pike, etc. fishing from the dam in Milton to Smiths Landing. |

RT. 1 north to RT "16" and make a "right." I've seen yakers before so I come down off plane to go by them. |

Yakfisher84, welcome to the forum. Please disregard Dick's sense of direction. It's not his fault, he's from PEEEEEAAAAA, and sometimes genetic complications of generations of PEEEAAAn insest cause the brain synapses to misfire. After you pass the golf course going north on Rt.1, turn RIGHT, not left. (That would be eastward). If you're from PEEEEAAAA, turn left just like Dick says, but when you get to the other bay, you might want to stop the car before you reach the water. If you want to 'yak the Broadkill, bear in mind the current really moves through there during tide changes, and there's plenty of power boat traffic. I always thought that on a calm day it would be ideal to 'yak on the bay side past the sand bar. The trout, flounder and strippppers all run up and down the sand bar (out about 150 yards from shore) on both sides when the tide's in, and mostly on the open water side when it's out. |

I use my Loon 138 kayak at the Roosevely Inlet, and up and down the broadkill. Pick up nice trout and flounder. Best place is out along the old jetty off the beach. Great place for trout. |

Dombrowskid, do you have any trouble with the current in Lewes canal, Rosevelt Inlet or Braodkill, if so is there any time of the current to avoid |

Hey all, thanks for the reply's. I headed out under dick's directions and got the milton route to broadkill, hehe. So no harm, merely the sceninc way. AS FOR THE FISHING.... Stuck around from about 4-5:30, dunked some PEELERS but completely SKUNKED, didnt see anyone else land a fish either. AS FOR KAYAKING... Looks like it could work out well under the right conditions. Not sure of the contour of the river bottom though, id like hook up my portable ff on my cobra explorer to see what its like. Probably some things like fallen logs to get hung up on that could prove troublesome. Thanks Zen, ive been blasted way too many times by planing boats flying by in narrow channels. I get it a lot on the assawoman canal. Im Heading out tomorrow to the Assawoman bay around rt 90. ill let you know how i do |

This kayak fishing thing sounds like a lot of fun. Is there anyway to retrofit the kayak with a 200HP outboard so we can move a bit faster? |

Wow, my directions were a LITTLE off. Sorry for the bad directions Yak. I would think if your going to fish the Roosevelt inlet (submerged jetties) it would be easier to put in at the inlet parking lot instead of haveing to drive all the way around and drag your boat to the water. |

Was fishing at IRI 6/10.Got there at 4:30 am,lots of small blues on a 1/2 white bucktail and clear 4" gotcha. Fished till 10:30 am and thats all I saw anyone catch. On the way to the truck,I spoke to a striper fisherman from Virginia who said the bite was very hot on the north jetty around 4 am. Purple and black were the colors.. Anyone goin to broadkill on thursday?I am not famaliar with it and could use some pointers. Steve |

Steve "Stef" - make a new post when you're looking for info in a hurry. Otherwise, it'll get buried. Broadkill is a surf or river proposition. There have been many, many posts on how to fish Broadkill, but you can use the same rig on either side. If you fish the river, fish the ebb +/- an hour or so. The beach is anytime fishing. Ideally, a 10' rod will get you where you want to cast. Bring 3 and 4 ounce bass sinkers, and rig a dropper with 12 - 18 inches of leader. 4/0 to 5/0 circles with a teaser above. I like the pink / light blue combos now. Live peeler if you can get it, and chicken fillet. BRING PLENTY OF INSECT REPELLANT |
