Atlantic Liquors hits big time
with giant expansion of store

Atlantic Liquors has hit the big time.

On June 29, the store with one of the largest selections of beer, wine and spirits on the Delaware coast, moved into a new building at Route 1 and Old Landing Road in Rehoboth Beach.

"It gives us more parking and better exposure to the public," said owner Mike Subrick, who noted the store's previous location on Old Landing Road was difficult to find. "It's got to help just being on the highway."

The new building has 2,000 more square feet than the previous store and four times more parking.

Subrick noted the new facility will allow the store to nearly triple its wine selection. Atlantic Liquors currently carries about 1,000 different wines and 200 types of beer. Selections that are not in stock can be specially ordered.

"If we don't have it, we'll get it for you," said Subrick, who owns the business along with Dale Lomas.

The store also has a web site (www.atlanticliquors.com) containing an "Ask the Expert" section that gives tips on which types of wine go best with certain foods.

Atlantic Liquors started 10 years ago in a two-car garage on Old Landing Road behind the new store. It eventually expanded into an adjacent house and two years ago a large warehouse was added.

"It's been fun," Subrick said. "It's grown rather quick."

The one obstacle, however, was a location that was barely visible from Route 1 and often difficult to find. Luckily, the business had a good reputation among customers.

"Word of mouth has been everything," Subrick said.

And visibility will no longer be a problem.
